But for multi-threaded games and desktop workloads, if you consider both, FX-6300 is a viable option. Motherboard cost will be around 5.5K. Because of the overall package, pricing and performance, Tomshardware is also recommending it in their Best Gaming CPU for Money articles for last couple of months.
Also, games like Crysis 3, Metro Last Light, Battlefield 4 or Battlefield 3 /4 Multiplayer, FX-6300 does have an edge over i3.

FX 6300 config (derieed from what OP originally posted):

FX 6300 (7700)
MSI 970A-G43 (5300)
Kingston HyperX DDR3 4GB - 2.8k
WD Blue 500GB 7200RPM - 3.1k
AMD R7 250x- 7.8k
Antec VP450P Power Supply Unit-2.6k
Dell 20-in IN2030M LED Backlit Monitor- 6.3k

total: 35.6

I think this is absolutely considerable.

I think it is 250, not the X one. For 250X or HD 7770, you need to spend minimum of 7.3K (Snapdeal, Sapphire HD 7770 1GB GDDR5).
