Recovery dvd queries

Hi Guys,

We were making recovery discs from the recovery disk of a hp laptop. After 2 discs were burned the electricity went off so we had to cancel the process because the charging was low. So after advices from the members of this forum we were finally able to get recovery dvd's from hp. 4 recovery dvd's have been received, three of windows and the last one of the drivers. Few queries-

1. The HP support guy who guided us on the recovery dvd's process and the shopkeeper from whom we bought this, told us that the recovery discs will be seven in number but we have received only 4 discs. Why is that so? A blank dvd has a total size of 4.7gigs. The size of these dvd's is also the same.

2. There is nowhere mentioned on the dvd's that these are specifically for our hp laptop model. Will these work in all hp models?

3. There's only 1 driver dvd that means that other three are of Windows 10, right? But if we download Windows from MS's site and burn it, it will take 1 dvd. So, why 3 dvd's in this case?

All the above questions were asked to hp customer support on chat and they replied this-

1. Just like a same movie have different sizes like 700mb, 4 gb. In the same way these discs have the different sizes.
2. Sir these are compressed versions.
3. These discs are zipped.
4. We have softwares that can burn 100gigs in 4 dvd's. lololololololololololol.

We contacted the support on phone and everytime they put our phone on hold for like forever.

Thanks

Generally the recovery disks contain a complete factory image of your laptop including all the bundled software provided by OEM including the OS. Hence while windows 10 fits on single DVD, the recovery image of a Windows 10 laptop generally spans across DVDs or expects a 16 GB or 32 GB pen drive depending on the size of recovery contents.

The dvd's are specific for your pc model and not all the HP PC's.

They contain only one OS.

after installing OS from retail disc the OS size on disc is also more than 4.7gb
the recovery discs contain uncompressed files and also HP support software as patkim said.

Thanks, understood. What about this ? A standard blank dvd is 4.7gb in size. The support told me that 6-7 disks are needed but they have only sent 4. And the size of these disks is also 4.7 gb. So why the difference in number of disks?

Update-

A friend of mine got the recovery usb stick for free in US. In India they charge 4000+ for the same.

One quick question to OP..when you were trying to create the recovery disks on your own (when electricity went off) do you remember if the software asked you to keep n number of blank DVDs ready? Just in case. That would confirm the exact number.

If you have that HP software, try to recreate the process and check for yourself, if possible. This should eliminate the ambiguity of info otherwise.

7. HP customer support is also saying that 7 discs if you burn it yourself, 4 if we send them.

It gives an error after 2 discs are burned. The support said that it is designed to burn discs one time only.
