Guys, I did the unthinkable. I have dual boot XP & FC5. While on Windows, I opened disk management & deleted my /boot folder not realizing what it was . Now FC5 is unbootable. Any bright ideas on what I can o to recover it?. Maybe I can create a new partition & somehow format it in ext3 filesystem & manually copy the files or something. Input please.

I guess repair should work. As I see it, files required for booting your system are missing. So, you will need to install the kernel again and also the grub. That should most probably work.

I think you need to boot with a livecd and mount your root partition and try reinstalling the kernel rpm...by chroot to your root partn from a shell.but first you may want to remove the /boot partn line from ur /etc/fstab...

You can try repair (recovery) since you have deleted the GRUB the bootloader.
There is also another hack. I think this should work!! If any of your friends have
installed (FC5 & Windows XP) , copy the '/boot' folder in a floppy or CD and copy
it in your Windows partition. Now boot using the Live CD (Ubuntu, Knoppix), and
mount the Windows partition in the '/mnt/win_d' folder , you must also mount
the Fedora 5 partition to /mnt/Fedora' folder. Now open the Terminal Window
and login as Root ( su -)
mv /mnt/win_d/boot /mnt/Fedora/
