Recommendations needed for reliable PSU within 3k-4k

My CM extreme power psu has gone kaput once again(for the third time) and so I've become really frustrated with it.Now I've decided to go for a new PSU for my system, which consists of the following components: pentium D cpu, Intel 945 mobo,2 GB ram,2 HDDs,two DVD-RW drives,Geforce gts 450 GPU.

I have a relatively modest budget of Rs 3500,which can be increased to 4k(max) if necessary.I am looking for a reliable psu which won't generate too much noise and will not overheat or malfunction when my PC is kept on for prolonged periods. After reading some reviews on various websites,I've decided to opt for a corsair PSU and have zeroed down on the following two models:

Corsair VX 450
Corsair VX 550

Which of them will fit into my budget?I'd be grateful if someone could apprise me of their current prices in the Indian market.Other than corsair, what other options do i have?

Fsp saga II 500w @ 2k should be good enough for your requirements. All of these PSUs will be total overkill for your system. BTW VX550 is a better PSU than GS600 (more wattage is not necessarily better).

@game freak:Thanks for your advice. But I've read elsewhere on this forum that the price of vx 550 has now been reduced to around 3800 or thereabouts-is that true?If however,it actually costs rs 4700 like you've mentioned above then i won't be able to afford it at the moment. Are u sure the gs 600 is priced at 4k?It appears to be superior to vx450 in terms of features and so i will definitely consider buying it if it fits into my meagre budget.

@ cybertronic:Thanks for your recommendation. However,I am planning to upgrade my system in the foreseeable future and therefore i think corsair will be a better choice as it is generally regarded as more reliable.Besides,I am not sure whether FSP saga psus are widely available in kolkata or not.

It has been suggested by many of you that corsair VX 450W will be an overkill for my current system. So now I'm thinking of going for a corsair CX430 PSU instead.According to a review of this psu that i found on johnnyguru.com,it performs rather admirably even when it is subjected to heavy load. Can this psu be considered reliable?Does it have any known issues? Some users have complained that this psu produces a kind of whining noise when it's in standby mode-is it really true?

I've learnt that this psu features a 6+2 pin pci-e power connector-what does that mean? Will it be able to power my geforce gts 450 that requires a pci-e 6 pin auxillary connector?

And lastly, how much does this psu cost?

No, avoid cx430. Its rated 430w at 30C and an over-rated unit(actually a 380-390w unit).

If u are unable to find vx550w under 4k, get corsair GS600 for 4k.

These are futureproof.

Who told u that vx450 ll be an overkill?and morever u told u r going to upgrade ur pc in near future rite?
then vx450 is what u have to buy.if vx450 is an overkill, then what about gs600,fsp saga 2 500W?
the vx series are reliable, better performaning than the gs and cx series.(the company itself tells this.go to corsair.com)
gs (gaming series)series are
price/performance oriented and are below vx tx and hx.and cx are budget psu s for barebone PCs.cx430 costs 2.6k and gs600 costs 4.5k.
your choice is either vx450 or vx550.and do lets us know the prices after u buy.

Same suggestion from my side.

Get a PSU with high W rating. They will help you with future proofing+ its better if you make full use of budget

1. Gs600 is 4k at prime and smc. I have ordered it.
2. Gs600 is much more vfm than vx450w.
3.check reviews. Gs600 can deliver its rated power 600w at >50c temp.
4. Gs series are comparable to PSH units 50w less in terms of performance. And psh unit 50w less is vx550w.

@Demon Lord:Its true that i intend to upgrade my rig later this year, when the prices of the latest peripherals have reduced a bit.MD computers of kolkata has quoted the price of cx430 as Rs 2300 and they're selling vx450 for Rs 3800(slightly overpriced). Therefore i expect that vx550W will be even more highly priced here, thereby putting it out of my reach.

@jaskanwar singh:Thanks for replying mate.Do u have any idea about the cost of CX400?The GS600 for Rs 4k looks tempting-it also features a blue led fan which makes it a very attractive option indeed. However it is likely to be priced higher by atleast Rs 400-600 in most shops of kolkata and therefore I don't think I'll be able to afford it.I intend to upgrade my current cpu with a quad core proccy such as amd x4 635 or an intel core i5 in future.

Is the FSP SAGA 2 500W worth buying? Can it be considered reliable?Does the company provide good after sales service?

If the gs600 costs 4k then its worth it.
