I have similar problems with my card too. It doesn't work when:
1. There is a VGA cable in the VGA port of the monitor while I am trying to connect it via DVI even if the other end of the VGA cable is not attached anywhere.
2. If I put the DVI cable in the secondary display DVI port of my grahic card.
After changing anything, always restart your PC completely by once turning off even the UPS.

how to update bios?

this is my motherbord
Mercury-pc.com

get it from Download Drivers section of the website - your mobo Cd must have some kind of windows based utility to update the bios - use your mobo manual for that.

BTW, do note that most modern mobos support updating bios from USB flash drive - just copy the bios file into the flash drive and see mobo manual - you will get to know how to do it for sure.
