Prblm with notepad

whenever i open notepad it shows a msg
" Windows cant find 'c:\doc and stngs\samish\....\*(file name).txt' make sure u typed the name corrctly, and then try again. to search a file ,clik start button and then search"

wats the prblm, plz send me the solution.

From where u open the notepad?
I mean did u try to open notepad by giving command notepad.exe in RUN dialog box? It should work!

I think if u r opening notepad from programs menu, then may be the shortcut command has been changed?

So pls confirm by open notepad from RUN

Ok!

I was asking from where are you opening Notepad? Are you opening it from Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad ?

If yes! Then try to open it from RUN dialog box, by giving command:

notepad.exe

If you still get the same error, then pls post and we'll find another solution.

And if notepad opens from RUN without any problem, then its only a shortcut problem

PS: Its again in wrong section dude! Sorry but I'll hv to report it

it means every time i want to open a ntpad i have to open it frm run cmd
i dont want to use run cmd again n again. plz giv me some easy methd.
i open it frm where it is.

I was not asking u to open notepad each time from RUN box.
I was asking to check it and then tell the result so that we can know whether the problem is related to the shortcut or not!

From ur above post, I think u r able to open it from RUN, so do one thing!

Goto:

Start -> Programs -> Accessories

and now right-click on Notepad and select Properties, now in Shortcut tab make sure the value of Target field is:

%SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe

If its not then change it

You should mention in the first post that u r getting this error while opening a text file

You said that u get the error while opening the notepad!

Now do this!

Open Tools -> Folder Options and in File Types tab look for Txt filetype. Now click on Advanced button and select Open then click on Edit button. now change the entry into "Application used to perform this action" to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\NOTEPAD.EXE %1
