A couple of reasons. One, the need was to have a device to read pdfs and powerpoint presentations and browse the internet and there was no need of an overkill. Secondly, the ASUS up there is much more powerful that the name "Celeron" implies. Its far better than the Atoms and boots to the W8 lockscreen in 8-9 seconds flat.

Budget wasnt a constraint so much as size and weight, its for my sister and hence the color too

Its not a netbook, its just a small laptop

I havent tried it myself completely - it surely lasted over 2.5 hours when I last tried it playing movies and generally exploring how it felt.
