yea I wanted to get that but it was not available, but it doesn't make a lot of difference, only the write rates are slow (doesn't really matter), the read rates are super fast

The pro uses MLC NAND (what most current SSDs use) and the regular one uses slower, cheaper TLC NAND (what most SSDs will likely use in the future). TLC NAND also has a shorter lifespan, which is probably why the regular 840s have less space (more NAND dedicated to overprovisioning). But the upshot of TLC is that it's cheaper to manufacture than MLC, so in several months from now when TLC is more popular, SSDs will probably be even cheaper than they are now

That's quite high for a casing. Better to shell out 1.8k more and get an USB 3.0 ext. 500GB HDD.

Not really! An external casing allows you utilise more than one HDD either alternately or consecutively - when one is full, use the next. Also, most external casings have only an upper limit for the capacity of the HDD you can use. For a casing with an upper limit for the HDD pegged at 1 TB, for example, you can use 1 TB, 500 GB or even a 250 GB HDD in it. Internal HDDs used in external casing are faster too if the USB 3 port is not merely for names sake, and that makes it a very good deal in my book.
