Portable hard drive installation problem

I unplugged my Seagate portable 1TB hard drive while it was being installed.Naturally, the driver didn't install properly. Now whenever I connect the hard drive again, it is shown as a "Storage Device" with model name "Portable" under "Devices and Printers" in Control Panel. I've tried uninstalling it from Device Manager, but when I plugged it again, it installed the "USB Mass Storage Device" driver but the installation of "Seagate Potatable USB Device" driver fails. It asks me to contact the device manufacturer for help in installing the drive. Is there any way to install the device properly?

make sure the drive is ok by connecting to to another pc and on your pc - uninstall USB drivers, reboot and windows will automatically install usb drivers and once it's done reboot again and try plugging in the HDD on some different USB port.

^ Tried all of the above. The drive appeared in My Computer, but on opening the contents of the drive, Win Explorer stopped responding and I had to reboot my PC. On rebooting, Windows tries install to the drivers once again and fails. When I uninstall/reinstall drivers again, sometimes the drive appears in My Computer (but the PC hangs when I open it), and sometimes it fails to install.

The drive is not appearing in Disk Management either, but appears in Device manager (even when driver installation fails.)

EDIT: I'm facing the same problem with on connecting the drive to my other PC as well.

make sure you are using back side usb port on the mobo & not front side cabinet usb port.also try using a laptop(preferably usb 2.0 port).

I've tried all of this but it doesn't seem to work. Makes me think think it's an issue with the drive itself, and not my PC.

Is there some sort of software/utility that can help me, like how TuneUp Utilities repaired bad sectors to help access drives that appeared in My Computer, but made Win Explorer hang when they opened? (Only that my drive doesn't appear in My Computer)

use seagate disk utility & perform a long test & if it gives error then time to RMA.you can also try chkdsk g: /f (assuming g is your portable hdd drive letter).
