Hello,

i am going to buy config on sat for my cousin..he will use it for genral office work(microsoft office) ..movies and some gaming (no high end gaming just AOE types).

his budget is around 30-35 k ..on absis of that i have made following config..pls let me know if can get better config on this budget



Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 6650
Asus M2AVM 4500
2 x 512 mb Transcend DDR 2 667 Mhz 2100
Seagate 160GB SATA2 HDD Rs2350
cabinet 2000
17" lcd 9000(approx)
keyboard mouse microsoft - 850
APC 500 VA UPS 2300
speakers creative inspire 5200 5.1 4000

Intel DG965RY Rs4700

i need some help in few points

1) personally i think amd will be better as he wont overclock and in his budget he can get only c2d4300, i have checked for c2d4400 ..its not available in local market.
2) pls suggest me good 17" lcd with dvi
3) he want a 5.1 speaker system...anything better that what i have selected ? and also do i need to take soundcard also for it ? or onboard sound will be enough..?
4) personally i wld have gone with 3600 in cpu..but he want his sytem future proof so i thought its better i go with 4800
5) also in recent post i read abt 65nm thing in AMD X2 ..how i can check its 90nm ? is it available in 4800 ?

1. If not an o'clocker, AMD is a wise choice n get the brisbane of corz..

2. Viewsonic 17'' VA1703WB- Rs.8600

3. dat is a good choice and a VFM as well.. Gr8 sound with the onboard audio..

4. Even the 3600/3800 wud do if he isn't much into audio/video apps.. But 4800 is better as of now with the 65nm brisbanes..

5. How to Diffrentiate between Brisbane and Windsor?

Currently Brisbane Core Processors from AMD come in following flavours

1. 3600+
2. 4000+
3. 4400+
4. 4800+
5. 5000+

As reference I'll be using this image, open it and enlarge it to maximum size.




1. Clock Speed :

Brisbane Core :
4800+ : 2500 Mhz

Windsor Core :
4800+ : 2400 Mhz


Speed of the processor can be checked on the top of the box as in the image in the top right corner.

2. Cache :

Brisbane Core :
4800+ : 640+640 KB

Windsor Core :
4800+ : 1152+1152 KB

As you can see all processors except 5000+ can be identified easily from the above two methods.

3. Product Code :

To identify X2 5000+ as Brisbane or Windsor you need to Check the OPN Code written on the top of the box (at the bottom of the attached image)

The OPN Code for Brisbane 5000+ is :
ADO5000DDBOX

The OPN Code for Windsor 5000+ is :
ADA5000CZBOX
or
ADO5000CZBOX

As you can see, the model no. is mentioned after the first three letters, the object of interest is the next alphabet, which has been bolded here :

For Brisbane Core this letter should be : D
For Windsor Core this letter should be : C

This method can also be used to identify the lower end models of Brisbane Core making this method suitable for identification of all Brisbane Core Processors i.e. 3600+, 4000+, 4400+, 4800+ and finally 5000+.

With C2D E4300 D965RY wont do, as when u buy E4300 at stock the procy isnt great.... where as u OC the procy a little, then it can be compare with X2 4800...

now with motherboard consider ASUS P5B-VM (The uATX) or P5B-V (the ATX one) it will be around 7.2k + TAX in Kolkata *www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l...&modelm enu=1

as the P5B-V / VM will allow over clocking with on board grfx (G965) which will allow u not to buy a grfx card to allow a PC in Budget..

and when u r spending a bit, consider 2GB in 2x1 GB format !!! it would be around 3800+TAX....

i know he wont overclock.. so c2d is out of question ..as higher model not in his budget ?

btw forgot to add in config...the dvd writer ? which one should i buy? sony ? lite-on ?

infect BenQ FP71E+ is also and option but availability is a issue...

Alive Again...
Go for Intel
Opt for a Single RAM Stick of 1GB it around Rs. 1800/- in mumbai
instead of just 17" go for 17" Wide Screen Rs. 9600/-
keyboard mouse you go their & select which one you like you can get a good combo of iball for Rs. 650/-
If you have some money remaining than go for 200GB otherwise 160 is Very Fine

Rest is ok

checked in local market

1) ASUS-M2aVM is not available here locally..dealer will get it for me ..but will take a week, i need to assemble it tomm.
2) no 4800++ is availble here (welcome to jaipur...computer market really sucks here..same way no no E4400 available here).
3) cant find any 17" lcd with dvi
4) very disappointed..:(
