Hi, i want a best PC configuration for gaming purpose and 3d animation creation (3dMax, Maya, Flash). I can go upto 70-80K (INR) . Please help me to choose for -
CPU, MBD (with SATA, GIG LAN, RAID, OVER CLOCKING), RAM, HDD, DVD RW/ROM, Monitor-17"

:- few months back i read one article to build best pc....is that configuration will do enough for next 2-3 years ? Shall i wait for PCI Express technology and next OS release from MS ? longhorn ?

CHILL OUT ... i think u need to get ur facts a lil straight ...
and u need to think before dulging straight into buying a comp just cuz u have a high budget
take it slow
consider an AMD system ...
wait for a month .. ull get PCI-E in AMD machines as well
microsofts next OS is not scheduled for release before 2006
so windows XP is ur only option as of now ...
PS : longhorn is in ALPHA stage ... means its still INCOMPLETE ...
tho downloads are available ... but this is highly unstable
i wouldnt recommend runnin ur system on an incomplete OS

i aint helpin with ur config cuz frankly im tired
someone else will definitely come along with a good config for ur needs .

So you want a 'best' config ? No such animal exists. I or someone else could suggest a top-grade system far exceeding your budget, and then someone else can come along and nitpick it to death. Instead of choosing specific components, let's discuss some issues in general.

First, there is no question that at present AMD rules in the CPU segment.
Second, 17" monitors are mainstream now. A high-end machine would be better matched with a flat-screen 19" or larger monitor.

RAM : At least 1GB of DDR400, Crucial or Kingston. More RAM will give better performance, but it's a case of diminishing returns above about 1GB.

Graphics card : Ah, that could trigger another nVidia-ATI war. The fact is that at the top level, you won't notice much difference. I'm talking about real-life usage, not benchmarks.

At present, SATA has no real performance gain over a good PATA drive. Same with PCI-E vs AGP. One could say that since these are cutting-edge technologies, having them will future-proof your system. But even these standards will probably be upgraded in the not too distant future. Something like SATA-2 or PCI-E 2 will come along.

Hardware veterans call these 'bleeding edge' technologies - a disparaging term which implies that it's foolish to chase after every new-fangled technology as soon as they're released. Of course, if you have an unlimited budget and need every drop of benchmark point, that's a different matter. But most of us do not fall into that category.

Taking SATA in particular, it's been here for some time and SATA drives cost not much more than PATA drives, so there's no harm in having them. Just don't expect spectacular performance compared to PATA.

You gave no details about the magazine article you referred to, but no config can claim top position for six months, let alone 2-3 years. But if you choose wisely, it can still be a fairly good system even after 2 years.

Also take note that the market keep on rotating as there is no fixture for the hardware devices available these days. Almost everyday a new technology come up and changes the way we use computing. Its always better you do a little reviewing before you plan to buy any device

I can't be specific about the cost here. But you plan to use core applicatons like maya and mainly gaming, I would suggest the following:

hello.
Look, first firmly decide what you want. A best gaming machine or best 3d animation machine.
If you are mainly a gamer and casual 3d animator then you must go for Athlon 64 system. Athlon 64 is best platform for gaming.
I will just tell you an real life example.
I had P4 2.6C oced to 3.25Ghz. RAM in 1:1 so no bottleneck.
I have GF 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 graphic card.
My P4 was pulling our 108 FPS in CSS stress test.
I just upgraded to Athlon 64 3200+ S939.
Everything else is same. Same RAM chips same everything.
Now I am pulling out 128FPS in same CSS stress test.
Thats enough idea how strong Athlon 64 are in gaming.

On the other hand if you are casual gamer and your primary work is Animation, Maya, 3dsmax then you must go with high end P4 system. Pure extra clock speeds of P4 help it a lot in these applications.

Here is a config i suggest for gamer.

Athlon 64 3200+ S939
ASUS A8V deluxe WIFI edition mobo.( 4XSATA Raid, 4X IDE raid support)
1GB PC 3200 DDR RAM.
2x120GB WD HDD raid 0 config.
450 watt good quality PSU.
1X DVDRW
1X DVD ROM
Geforce 6800Gt graphic card.
19" CRT Monitor.
SBLive Audigy2 sound card.
Creative 5.1 speakers

THis will fit in 80K budget

If you are casual gamer and more of animator. then change processor to P4 LGA 775 3.4 Ghz and ASUS 925X chipset mobo.
Rest all can be kept same.
This will not fit into 80K budget as 6800GT PCI express card is much more expensive than AGP version. Costs 36K against 27.5K for AGP version.
So if you want to limit it to 80K you will have to sacrifise on graphic card and settle for 6600GT or skip audigy2 and 5.1 and go for onboard audio + 4.1 speakers.
Choice is yours.

ha. This way he will always keep waiting.
First people said wait wait new A64 is comming.
Then said oh wait new S929 is comming then oh wait PCI express is comming. Then oh wait, SLI is comming. Now wait for 2 more months PCI-Express 150( new PCI express X16 standard which can provide 150 watts to your card rather than 75 which current PCI express can) will come.
This will never end.
AGP is not dying anytime soon and performance of AGP cards are on par with PCI express and even better in some cases.
Hell if you wait for another month there will probably be 1066FSB LGA 775 P4 out.
And if you wait 6-8 months there will be dual core processors.

This is not gona end ever.......
Get the stuff you want right when you want. There will always be something new in a month or two.

Itz about the right time to buy.
Whenever a guy buys a PC or a component, he shouldn't fel that he should hav waited a month or so.
We are not talkin about small changes in the PC industry.
Itz about newer standards being implemented at cheaper prices
And all the companies would be performing a bull fight since the new year.
And most of them normally wait for Jan for implementation and offer them as New Year Gifts to Consumers.
I hav a PC too and bought many addons to it. But I bought them only when the time waz right.
Only If it waz urgent, I used to buy them without botherin about the so called "Right" time

well look at it this way. There's 3 major changes in the horizon. 64bit computing, PCI-E and DDR2 and also do not discount the dual processors that Intel is working on and also the SLI's from nvidia. With this amount of changes I would have to wait for a year at the least before anything stable is out there. 45 days aint gonna be enuff. Right the first 3 are the biggest changes in the PC industry. And the 64 bit computing will not take off till the 64 bit OS from microsoft becomes commercially available. So waiting is not the answer. Like funkymonkey suggeste fix onw hat you need and go for it.
