Pc Restarting Problem

Hey guys,

i have a big problem. my pc keeps restarting after every 5 mins for some reason i'm unaware of. i just don't know what has happened to it. its like if i turn it off for 10 mins or so then it'll run fine for half an hour or so an again it will restart.

how can solve this problem??? its really a pain in the @rse!! so please help me fast

It may be due to overheating[mainly due to dust]. Clean da dust off the CPu heatsink, fan nd over other components.

i opened my system and then cleaned it spick. now the same problem has become mre serious. when i switch on my pc it runs for about 20 seconds and then turns off on its own. i don't think its a software problem bcus the os is booting properly.

does anyone have a diognosis for this problem ??

It may be due to:
1.PSU failure
2.Overheating

Check out if the HSF is seated properly on your processor.I am 90% sure about it.You can seek the help of some friend\professional if you don't know how to do it.

99% chance: overheating or crapped out smps.

i don't think its overheating. bcus for about 1 and a half years my pc has not shown even smallest signs of overheating.

so u guys are sure its smps prob??? what is an HSF

heat sink the aluminium 'structure' ove your proccy.Look napster im 90% sure about it--its overheating problem.

This has made me sure because most prolly you disoriented your HSF while cleaning thats why it keeps on restarting every 20 seconds(20 seconds ine very special here because it is the time a proccy reaches tjunction temp(temp at which the proccy is shut down))

no no i saw the heat sink above the cpu and it is properly connected. but does it have to do anything with pluging in wires on the mobo?? cus i don't think any electricity flows through it and its just a standalone structure. and i sure its connected properly.

No yar it doesn't carry any current.Actually it is for dissipating heat that proccy generates by providing more surface area.
Your problem can have no cause except for overheating.

lets hope so. actually i'll be really happy if its the fault of smps cuz its under waranty and i can get it replaced

Did you add anything recently to your system like HDD, DVD etc? If so, there is possibility of SMPS overloading.

turns out that u were right man. the heat sink has tiny metal strips present at its hooks which touch with similar ones beneath the mobo. i think i had disabled the hooks somehow. well at the same time i got my heatsink replaced and the smps too.(for free!!)
