1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run?

Ans: PC will be used mainly for 3D work (Maya, Zbrush, Vray) and Playing games like Max Payne 3 ,PES, COD, Deus Ex:HR, Batman AC and upcoming games @fullHD resolution (high settings)

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Ans: 60_70 k. Will try to increase if needed.

3. Planning to overclock?

Ans: Unlikely.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 64 bit.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?

Ans:1 or 2 TB.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.

Ans:Yes. 24" and 1080p. Will also use my PS3 so HDMI port is needed.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?

Ans: Speakers,keyboard and mouse.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?

Ans: In 3_4 weeks.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

Ans: Assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?

Ans: Mumbai. Will buy the components from Lamington road.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?

Ans: Will probably buy the 7850 HD. Can I accommodate an i7 proccy in this budget?

+1 ^^.
Intel ( i7 ) will overstep your budget or make you compromise on other components.

A benq monitor can free up some cash. BENQ G2420 HD
A 120GB SSD is more usable. Corsair Force 3 120 GB SATA 3 SATA 6.0 SSD
Corsair CX600 ought to be sufficient.
Invest cash saved from above into a 2 TB HDD.

FX series is not very optimized for gaming according to the reviews :-(. And the power consumption is also higher than the i5/7 series if i am not wrong?

Is the SSD necessary? How much will a i7 system cost ?

Intel i7 2600k - 17k
Asus P8Z77-V - 15.4k or Asus P8Z77-V LX - 11.4k
GSkill RipJawsX 1600MHz 4GB*2 - 3.4k
WD Caviar Blue WD10EALX 1TB - 5.4k
Corsair Force Series GT 120GB SSD - 8.2k

CM hyper 212 evo cpu cooler-2.1k
Total=89.6k/85.6k

If within your budget then go for i7 2600k config.
Asus P8Z77-V has a wifi chip.
Asus P8Z77-V LX doesn't support nvidia SLI but supports AMD Crossfirex and is a good motherboard.

SSD would lower the loading times of applications and make the OS and applications more responsive.
It won't speed up the process.
The applications you are going to use are more CPU and memory dependent.
If geometry and textures are too large that it takes an hdd much time in that case the ssd would be faster. But that's not what generally happen.
In general SSD won't help in increasing editor speed or rendering speed.
Generally people spend time in moving files and folders in between drives. In that case ssd would be much faster.
If you are on a tight budget then you can skip the ssd for the time being and add it later if you want.

If the i7 config exceeds your budget then go for amd fx 8150 config.

@HTBR But for 3D and visuals FX 4100 even kicks i5 2500k's ass. For multicore perfomance AMD is the best.
Nothing like that mate.
In 3d modelling i5 2500 and fx 8150 are close to each other. In some situations fx8150 is faster and i5 2500k in some others.
Only in case of video encoding, rendering fx8150 has significant advantage in many situations.
Situations are even worse for fx4100.In 3d modelling it is slower than even the i3 2100 in many scenarios.

The SSD is necessary as it gives you much faster read/write speeds. A high speed HDD can give you 100-150 MB/S read/write speeds but a high speed SSD can give you read/write speeds in excess of 250MB/S. The difference is significant.

Any cheap alternative other than the ASUS mobo as i don't need Wi-Fi or multi GPU or Overclocking features? I am worried about the power consumption of the FX Series.

Don't worry. Its TDP is the same as the 2nd Gen i5's and i7's. And it is a much better overclocker.

Get the FX. It will be much cheaper as you must have seen above and for 3D, it is the best.

And by just cutting in the mobo you won't get the total cost down a 10k. As, for the mobo youcan get the ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 for 8k. Some cheaper alternatives are the Biostar TZ68K+ and Intel Z68DB both for 7.5k but the ASRock is worth the extra 0.5k.

@HTBR
At load fx8150 consumes about 70Watts more power than the i7 2600k depending upon load.
But the overall setup cost of fx8150 is much cheaper than a i7 2600k config.

If you are going for i7 config then go for an overclockable setup as it might be handy in future.
For a cheap overclockable motherboard you can look for ASRock Z77 Pro4 at 8.8k.

As for the GPU - i would suggest go for the Sapphire 7870 will cost you 23.5K but its the money well spend....

Rough Specs so far:

CPU i7 3770
MOBO ??
RAM RipjawsX 8 GB F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
GPU MSI 7850 Twin Frozr 2 GDR 5
HDD ??
CAB Corsair 500R
MON Dell 23 IPS
DVD Asus DVD
PSU Corsair 650W TX

Mobo and HDD still not decided. Should i go for 4*2 GB or single 8 GB stick RAM? What is the difference?

knocking on heavens door
actually in 3D works it perfofms closely(very close) to i7 while being cheaper....tested it...so i know :)

If money is not a problem then get i7.If you are not overclocking get i7 2600 with a H67 motherboard.i7 3770 is around 7-8% faster than i7 2600.Buy it only if it is available within 18k.
Else go with i7 2600.If you opt for i7 2600 with h67 motherboard then go for 1333MHz ram.
If you go with an overclockable i7 config then go for i7 2600k instead of i7 3770k as the latter heats more.
For motherboard to pair with i7 2600k look for ASRock Z77 Pro4 or Asus P8Z77-V LX.

Get the CM hyper 212 evo as cpu cooler if you go for any of the i7 configs.

For performance between i7 2600 and fx8150 you can look at :3D modeling and rendering

Overall fx8150 setup is a very valuable one for your workloads, but if money is not a problem then i7 setup is better.
