Hi frnds,my rig is:
i5 3570k
Gigabyte ga-b75m-d3h
2gb ddr3 @1333
Seasonic s12ii 620w
Sapphire 7970
Seagate barracuda 160gb @7200
Samsung syncmaster 19 inch

I upgraded some of the components of my system this month like the cpu, mobo, ram, psu and gpu.The rest is gonna be upgraded in coming days.

I m using my rig for 24x7 dloading like torrents, games on steam and other dloads.I have set the display option to never sleep and display timeout as 2 mins.I simply switch off my monitor and let the dload happen 24x7.Sometimes when i switch on my monitor to check the progress the display doesnt come, only blinks.I press the keyboard keys and click the mouse, still only it blinks,no display. The pc is on as i can hear the hdd,cpu and gpu inside my case and even the fan led's glow.I have to switch off the ups and start over in order to get the display back. This is putting strain on my hdd.Has happened like 4 times in the last week. Why is this strange behaviour and what might be wrong?Plz suggest solutions.

I think you should not turn off the monitor manually - let windows do it for yourself and make sure there's no sftware installed/bios settings that is putting the pc in standby mode.

simply disable pc timeout and when you are not using your pc manually turn your monitor off many machines having issue with stand by option try this method than let us know.

manually turning off monitor is anot a very good idea IMo - and the most of the monitor consumes 1W or even less at standby mode ( not the pc ) and there's many software available that can turn off monitor ( windows OS do this after a set period of time ) instantly with just a muse click.
