PC Clock (Time) in taskbar getting slow....HELP..

Hi guys,

I bought a new Computer.....

And iam noticing that my PC time in my taskbar is getting slow by almost a minute everyday......

When i compare my watch after 3-4 days with my pc times almost 3-4 minutes difference shows....

I bought a new PC i suppose my motherboard BIOS cell must be new.....

why is it happening guys if u have any ideas plz help....


My System Config ....

Windows XP Professional
Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with HT Tech
Asus 915 Motherboard
512*512 Kingston ram
200 GB Sata Hdd

well bud...the only 2 reasons are

1 Cmos battery down(it can happen even with new PC)

2 time Zone not set/syncronized. right click ur date n time taskbar icon go to adjust date n time-> time zone-> see if its GMT+5:30 bombay calcutta etc etc..if not change it...

ext internet time...tick on automaticync

hope ur prob is solved..by this...

There's 2 more possibilities...

1. Buggy time synch programs. (Some are even spyware)

Run Spybot and check to make sure there are no such programs loaded...

2. Maybe your watch is going faster :)
I'd rather blame a mechanical device with moving parts than a spanking new computer :)

Since its a new PC, I donn believe battery going down(but worth a chk).

As you are using Windows XP(your sig says), the option Internet time may cause issues as it synchronises system time with a sever when online.
uncheck the option "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server"

either your bios batt is low or your wallclock has a short leg so that it moves faster.just replace the cmos batt and set your time with a news channel or something like reliance network.
you will always get same time on both the channel and your computer system time.

dont go anymore technical......it wont help everytime

Hey maximus999,

check in ur Task Manager if any process called hwclock.exe is running. It is a trojan (W32.Wallz).

It can cause unwanted changes.

Well a trojan would do much worse things than shave a minute off a watch day by day.
Maybe it is a good thing and he might end up with one extra day at the end of the year....

now thats all the problem

one solution

1 )replace the cell

2) the cell for your mother board is not suitable with it ! (even you have buyed a new comp there might
be miinstallment)

3) the best would be to contact the vendor as ur computer is new and can be rechecked

I missed this thread when maximus started it, but now that it's been bumped up......

PC real-time clocks are notoriously inaccurate, much more so than a 100-rupee digital wristwatch. It's not at all unusual for a PC RTC to be off by a large fraction of a minute per day. Perhaps a full minute per day is a bit on the extreme side, but not unheard of.

I don't think it's the battery. Maximus is just unlucky to have bought a mobo with one of the more inaccurate RTCs.

I have noticed that when i run NIS05 for full time AVS proection my PC clock also get slow.... but without NIS05 (with any other option) its runs perfect....

i dont know how much aplicable its on every case....

I had this problem. The engr said it was a prblem with the motherboard cos its an old one......

So what I do is change the time evryday... It works fine when the comp is on and when its switched off it doesnt work.....
