I want to build a new computer and only buy a new motherboard, processor, GPU, RAM a new cabinet and PSU. My budget is 40k. Planning to buy after June

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: High end video editing, and sufficient enough to run current games at 1920 * 1080 at highest settings

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:40.. Max 45 :)

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:Windows 7 or 8

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: I already own a 1 TB HDD so I dont need one :)

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:No I already own a 22" monitor

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:I only want to change my CPU. That is processor, Mb, RAM and cabinet and of course a new PSU :)

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:Late July

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:Yeah, many a times

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:Chennai

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:Theres no urgency to buy :)

No buddy I'll get one later this year. I can wait. I'm waiting for Intel's new Ivy Bridge. I hope the GPU prices will drop. I hope Intel's X79 motherboard prices drop to by the end July or October

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:Late July

Then you can get Ivy Bridge at that time. No hurry. Also, make another thread when you are about to buy the system as this config suggested by RiGod will be old at that time. :)

^^ Everyone keeps saying to wait for Ivy Bridge but according to the chart of that "Intel slashes Ivy Bridge prices before launch" article, I see that the new top of the line i5 will be about the same price as the current i7 so wouldn't IVB i5 be out of budget for those wanting a SB i5?

Wrong. Refer this article.

What about i7 3770? Is it worth the wait? I have Core 2 Quad Q8800 with DG41KR mb. I can wait but is it worth waiting for the new Ivy bridge? Which is better Intel i7 3770 or i7 2600?

If you're having a Q8800 processor then for now you can postpone the CPU purchase. Your processor is powerful enough to handle games if a good Graphics card is added. Buy a decent G41 chipset based motherboard from Gigabyte or Asus around 2.5K which support 8 GB of ram and add a Graphics card.

Sandy or Ivy Bridge or Haswell?

Users who can wait for a little longer can they wait for Haswell? It is expected to be launched by next year March and by the time it reaches India and prices fell it would June/July. Hardly a year wait. So should users feel major difference with Haswell as Ivy Bridge will see only little (5-10%) difference. So if we can should wait for Haswell?
