partition woes

I accidentally deleted the partitions on my desktop. Is there any way to get them back without loosing the content?

"Manage" option of my "my computer" icon says the partitions are deleted and i have unalloted space instead.

Can any body tell me about the partition table and how to edit it?

I have win 7 on my laptop and Ubuntu 11.04 (installed it somehow not inside windows,installed in my hard drive). I tried installing back box 4 which says i don't have enough partition and i can install it by deleting Ubuntu which I don't want to. So can you tell me how to edit partition table so I can try different OS on my laptop???
