Hi
I wanted to add a new Hard disk to my system. I wanted to do some tweaking to the existing partitions in that hard disk (I had requested the vendor to partition it and test it first).
Now, when I tried to install Partition Magic I am facing a strange problem. Instead of a install menu, I am getting the modify/repair/remove menu. I had installed the software a long time back for the original hard disk and uninstalled it. But now, it looks like the uninstall was not sucessful. When I try any of the options in the modify/repair/remove menu, I get the error that the operation requires installed product. So, I am unable to remove or install the software now...
I believe that the installer is based on MSI wherein a product ID is saved in the Windows registry. Since I am unable to find the word Partition Magic in the registry, I think that the ID has somehow remained. Does anyone know the ID to search for?

Thanks in advance
Arun

Hmm...Are there any folders related to PowerQuest/Partition Magic in Program Files, Common Files or Application Data folders? If yes, then delete them and try installing the software.
Also, to remove stray Registry entries, you can try the software RegSupreme.

Try to find entries for Partition Magic in the following locations in Registry:

Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Simply remove the key, which says Partition magic or PC Quest, etc like that.

Also remove entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE, if exists!
