My maternal uncle bought a PC with Windows 98 loaded many years ago..........but now he tried to install Windows XP and he came across a new problem that is whenever he starts his PC it get shutdown after some time.............so he asked me, and after knowing his configuration I suggested hum to re-install 98 because he has only 128MB RAM and I don't think that's the XP's minimum recommendation (Hope I'm right).

Now the main problem is...............He installed Windows 98 but no audio output is there and video is also too hazy with number of dots on video screen.............I checked his PC, the OS is not at all detecting any sound card (which is onboard there)..........I think there is a driver problem.............but I cann't find any driver on net because he don't know his chipset specifications...................after trying a lot I found this informations on the chipset:
Intel '99
810E2
CH007

Now can any1 here plz help me.................and plz tell me that:
1> Is this any driver problem??
2> If yes then how would I find those Drivers??
3> Windows 98 does not allow to partition HDD b4 installing.............Can I partition it by Partition Magic or DM???????

...............And plz suggest anything related to this thread.............and for your convinience let me inform you that the motherboard doesn't came with any driver CD.........

yes , thats a driver issue. You will have to install audio and video driver. Better to install Win Xp you will get the drivers there. or you can run everest on the system to find the hardware details and then look for the drivers...:)

you can create partion before installation of win98 ...use FDISK command.
