Overheating Lappy!

HEllo guys im having some problem with a laptop it is a compaq v3335tu v3000 series it is not mine and it is around 4-6 months old... last week i noticed abnormal temperatures and i ran everest and found that the cpu temps were average 65-72C And hdd was 65-71 now please tell me if these temperature readings are ok for the laptop i already contacted hp support and they are telling me that you need to reformat windows i also noticed that when the laptop temps go very high my dvd-drive stops working and reads everything as a music file................ i already got the drive replaced once but still that has not helped the laptop is on 24 hours a day 24X7 and it has around 700-800mb ram usage all in internet explorer the lappy has 1gig ram.... 120 gb hdd and a dual core processor[1 mb l2 cache 1.6ghZ] 14" screen
PLEASE POST A REPLY AS soon you can figure out what the problem is........

Run task manager and see in the Processes tab which file is gobbling up near 100% cpu. Looks like the cpu is fully loaded all the while and hence that temp.

But about 60C is not much. Its ok, bearable and nothing to worry about. All while ~70C is surely abnormal.

there is no such software which is using 100% or even 25% of the cpu.......................................................... and it goes very high quickly...........

i think sometimes overheating happens because of windows too when there's a driver prob and such (wrong utilization)...i'm saying it coz it happened with mine which has a c2d t7700...the procy and gpu was overheating till i reinstalled windows
anyways...i agree with infra_red_dude...60 degrees c can be bearable in the procy as it's a laptop but u're going too high in idle

my lappy was acting the same and he fan was making alot of noise, I gave into repair center, found the heat sync was covered with dirt so no air could go out or in.
so really suggestion would be to give it to service center as infra red says

hey there is no heatsink blockage and the fan is not making any noise..............................................

use a vaccum cleaner blower to blow off the dust. It brought down the GPU temps of my frens lappy by bout 11c!!
also, if its runnig vista, try turning off aero. It wud free some proccy nd gpu resources.

since 6 months i am facing the same problem with my V3425AU, it AMD Athlon X2 processor.

after using 15 mins, CPUID Hardware Monitor show core temp above 65C and GPU 90C, Then I sent back to service centre.

HP Service Centre Reports : CPU FAN replaced, still my lappy reads same temps.

One thing i found, Intel Lappies are cooler than AMD and Dell and Acer Lappies are relatively cooler than Compaq.

for starters...if you are keeping the laptop on metal or a matress, then there are chances that it heats up. try keeping it on material made of wood, glass or other non-conducting material.

check your bios to see if your processor is running at the correct clock speed. some motherboards have this system of AI overclocking which may cause such a problem. disable this feature to restore your processor to default clock settings.

There is no exact solution for this problem. . . .specially for compaq & hp laps with amd procy even you are in ac cooled cabin.

While i game on my lappy with GPU oced to a good level, sometimes the game starts showing up artifacts[on noon time and top floor, even the ambient temps are too high]. I place somethin like a text book or somethin on the rear bottom and the fan has enuf room to suck the air in thru the bottom and the artifacts are gone.

So make sure the fan ducts are not blocked and keep it dust free. Personally my AM2 X2 desktop proccy runs too cool, idles at <30c and max to 38~40c under load. Even under oc, it dun go beyond 45c.
