After spending a little over a month in development, and after no less than five Release Candidate development milestones, the second update to Opera 10.50 is now being offered to the public. Opera 10.52 Final is available for download for both Windows and Mac OS X users, with the release for the open source Linux operating system lagging behind. Version 5.2 is a minor refresh to Opera 10.51, focused mainly on introducing stability and security fixes.

“We are pleased to announce that Opera 10.52 for Mac and Windows is now out on the track. There’s been a lot of under-the-hood work, but also some intense polishing over the last couple of weeks. The end result is faster and shinier than ever! And it’s totally environmentally friendly,” a member of the Opera Desktop team revealed.

Opera 10.51 was released to web on March 22nd, 2010, at that time a Windows-only release, as the development process was not synchronized with the Mac OS X or Linux flavors of the browser. Version 10.52 of the browser from Opera Software is not all that different for Windows users. “Opera 10.52 is a recommended stability upgrade. Opera highly recommends all users to upgrade to this version to take advantage of these improvements,” an excerpt from the changelog accompanying the release reads.

The changelog offers an exhaustive list of modifications introduced to Opera 10.52, since the previous minor update, including changes impacting the user interface, the mail, news, chat features, display and scripting, Opera Unite and Opera Widgets for Desktop. According to the Norwegian browser maker, Opera 10.52 is not designed to fix any security vulnerabilities, but does feature enhanced security information dialog entries.

The Opera Desktop team representative “highlighted bug fixes since Opera 10.51:

“- Fixed a crash on closing tab with PDF plugin;
- Fixed issues with pages never stop loading;
- Fixed issues with caching;
- Fixed an issue with opening email attachments;
- Fixed an issue with access to Unite administration pages;
- Fixed a crash with various third-party apps on Facebook;
- Fixed an issue were mails could be lost when upgrading from Opera 9.27.”

I am not sure if these incidents are related, but I upgraded to 10.52 yesterday, and the files associated with Opera, like .html, .mht) don't show any icon (they show blank white icon). Anyone knows how to fix this? I am using Windows 7 64-bit and I tried fixing it by going to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Opera.HTML\DefaultIcon and then putting C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera\Opera.exe,1 in there. Previously it had quotes around the path, i.e. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera\Opera.exe,1". I removed the quotes, but still nothing.

Uhu, Not Gonna Happen!
not related to pushkar's post but they haven't fixed all the issues. This version also crashes now and then. I have been using Opera for close to 4 years now and the version 10 hugely disappointed me. :(

It's a beta. The Final for *nix will be out after 2-3 weeks.

Secondly, Opera 10.53 has been released for Mac OS X and Windows which addresses a security issue. Kindly update your browsers. *www.opera.com/download/
