Hi

I have OpenSuSE 10.2 and Ubuntu on my laptop. Whenever I run a slide show in impress, at the end of the show, office crashes. The message says that OO crashed due to an unexpected error and the documents you were working on will be restored next time you start OO. First I thought that it was installation problem, so I reinstalled OO in SuSE, but it still continued to crash.

Now, I installed Ubuntu feisty fawn yesterday, and OO in Ubuntu also crashes. I mean, does this happen with all you guys or it's just my PC?

And yeah, OO crashes even if the presentation is empty. It shows white screen, then says click to exit and then crash. It happens every time. Literally EVERY TIME .

ofcourse Oo_O not crashing here.but sometimes this can happen due to problems with Xorg libraries,qt ,gtk libs etc.for eg:Azureus and java apps using sun-j2re1.6 crashes in latest Debian experimental due to replacing of xlibs with xcb.

@aditya.shevade:
to point out the problem, the easiest way is to run openoffice-org-writer or any apps from a terminal.i hope u use GNOME.try OOO from gnome-terminal

if u r using kde,i think it wont be possible to launch open office from terminal;any ways u can try:

Code:
~$xhost +
and then run from konsole.if this also fails open an xterm from run dialog(alt+f2) and enter xterm to launch.

post the o/p u got it while Open office crashes from the terminal.I am nearly sure it is due to a problem with the interaction of java libs and Xorg.

I started OO from terminal by command
Code:
soffice
Then I opened an empty presentation, started the slide show. It crashed and recovered the file.

The terminal windows had this message,

Code:
aditya@OpenSuSE:~> soffice
process 4009: Applications must not close shared connections - see dbus_connection_close() docs. This is a bug in the application.
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

And also put this up in suse's forums and see if they can solve it else check if bug is filed if not it'd be good to file a bug, if you got openoffice from their official sources

^^ I got OO from the DVD, and I checked the DVD for errors, md5sum are fine. It passed the integrity check.

I also asked this on SuSE's IRC channel, they knew nothing, and as I said, it happens in Ubuntu as well.

Upload this presentation somewhere so we can see whether it happens on our systems as well. If it does then we will move ahead and see where the problem lies...in the file or in OpenOffice.

^^ That is what I am saying. It does not depend on the file. It crashes even if you put up an empty slide for slide show.

^ it is a bug;i too faced it in ubuntu and i feel this has to do with Xorg drivers for via chipsets(which i use now)

Oh looks like I was too sleepy while reading this thread :p
Anyways, try to stop dbus service and see if OpenOffice still crashes. Look like a dbus 1.0 issue to me...lots of applications were having problems when dbus moved version to 1.0
