not able to hear sound in linux! :(

hi,

i have 865 chipset, 2.4 ghz intel processor, 512 DDR. i installed mandriva linux. it detects and has installed an audio driver for intel 865, AC97 audio driver. but i am not able to hear any sound when playing music. i hav creative 5.1... cud any1 help on this thku.

Make sure that the sound volume levels are unmuted. Run the following in a console

amixer set PCM 100 unmute

Also, verify that the correct drivers have been loaded, run

lsmod | grep snd

and post the output here

What r u playing r music filez in ...... XMMS?
Yeah in most of the distros Ifound volume level is either muted or at very low! Unmute it and raise the volume level.
If filez dont play in XMMS then u have to copy the Mp3 plugin, anyway try realplayer or mplayer for playing filez too.
