Broken In
Well I'm complete newbie to this ghost thing. Can anybody tell me the size of images that it makes i.e whether it's of exactly same size as partition size.that would be too large to keep even as backup. Can you backup your multimedia with it like if i restore my songs, videos etc would also be restored or just system files

second problem is that i have a laptop with 80 gb hard disk with only one drive. It's filled quite alot with my s/w and songs and movies approx. 60 gb.Now i'm afraid that if my system crashes it'll be lost so i want the best possible backup solution.Norton ghost image will be good??????????????/ if yes approx what size will it be???? Secondly is it safe to now partition my hard disk with partion magic etc will my data be safe?????????????????????

Please help

1 whether it's of exactly same size as partition size?
Norton ghost can compressed data while creating image,so your image of partition will be of much smaller size.( already compressed format of multimedia like mpeg,mp3,jpeg doesn't compress much)

2 Can you backup your multimedia or just system files?
you can backup any data written on your harddisk. multimedia, system files etc.

3 general partion magic can creates partition with data, but there is no garrenty that data will be safe.

4 norton ghost can split and backup image file directly on cd/dvd .but it will not be good for 60 G.B data

suggestion: first back up multimedia file movies,mp3,etc individually on cd/dvd. individual folder(other than that are related to OS) can be compressed by winzip and backup .clean your harddisk as much as you can in this way. this will creates lots of space on harddisk.

I am using ghost for quite a long time. While taking the backup, in advanced setting you can specify the maximum compression which is around 50% of the actual data(depends on data). So a 700MB Cd can hold
approximately 1.4GB of data. The posibility of good restoration is also very high.Go for DVD backup if you require huge backup.

I Always Prefer 1080p
what i suggest is buy a 80 GB IDE HDD. Use a USB 2.0 to IDE cable to transfer the data. This will be much easier than u expect.

Use Acronis True Image v 9. You can take backup(which will be compressed) into DVD/CD along with partition info, os and data(including mp3 songs and whatever data). You can easily restore your laptop from DVD/CD so made. I am using it and I have used once to restore my full partition with data. It took only ten minutes.
