New System Build

Hello Friends, i intend on building a new system for myself, but i contemplate on carrying out the process in 2 phases.
My current configuration is -
Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P

Processor
AMD Athlon II X2 240 [2.8GHz]

Memory [RAM]
Kingston "Value RAM" 2 x 2GB DDR2 800MHz

Since i have a 'main setup', i intend on purchasing a new cabinet, graphics card & power supply as part of my 1st phase.
Cabinet
NZXT Tempest EVO

Graphics Card
AMD Radeon HD 6870 (confused between the MSI 'normal' & the 'twin frozer')

Power Supply
Corsair TX 850

Will the graphics card suffice on my AMD Athlon II X2 240 or will it cause bottlenecks? If so, then i will have to purchase phase 1 & phase 2 peripherals together.

My 2nd phase intentions are -
Motherboard
MSI 890GXM-G65

Processor
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE

Memory [RAM]
Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 1333MHz (2 x 2GB kit) [TW3X4G1333C9A]

I also intend on adding another AMD Radeon HD 6870 in CrossFire mode in the future. Hence, will the Corsair TX 850 suffice?

I intend on making my purchases mainly from Prime ABGB (Mumbai) & SMC International (New Delhi). Are there any other online shopping portals that i should have a look at? i found IT Depot interesting yet a tad expensive.

Now, i await your expertise, suggestions, opinions, criticisms etc. :)

That gfx card will be bottle necked by that cpu.

For a cpu upgrade your mobo supports Phenom II 955 cpu since F6 bios - if you want to get a new cpu flash your bios to F6 version and get a 955 cpu though make sure the has a TDP of 95W and odn't get the 955BE anyway.

If you want to get a new cpu+mobo then the mobo and ram choice is good - for cpu get AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition.

But I would suggest you to hold your horses for a little longer and wait for new revision of P67 mobos or mobos based on Z68 chip and sandy bridge cpu ie 2500K.

TX850 is more than enough tohandle 2X HD6870 - it can even handle 2x HD6970 !

BTW, I would suggest you to get HD6950 1GB from sapphire at 15.5k.

My suggestion would be a gtx 560 based gpu. Opt for factory overclocked 560's from asus , msi or zotac. Better than a 6950 1gb.

yup yup as togear said it will be a bottle neck. or try to oc it if you need a gpu badly. and wait for sandybridge. stick with a 6870 since your cpu is weak. how much is the cost of normal and twin frozr at your place.?

even a TX650W will be sufficent.

I intend on purchasing the peripherals from Prime ABGB & SMC International.
The 'normal' & the 'twin frozer' cost 14,500 INR at SMC International.
Which one should i opt for ?
MSI R6870 2PM2D1GD5 Graphics Card

OR

MSI R6870 TWIN FROZER Graphics Card

@ topgear

Sir, sorry for the rather late reply. I was down with viral fever.:-(

Yes, my motherboard will support the Phenom II X4 955 (non-BE) with the latest (F6) BIOS upgrade.

Do i certainly need a 6 core processor? Other than gaming, i will be using the system for image & video editing & hence, will be running applications such as Adobe Creative Suite (maybe, not all the softwares from the package), Corel Graphics Suite, Corel Video Studio, Pinnacle Studio etc.
Do any of the above applications take advantage of 6 cores?
Will an upgrade to a 6 core processor benefit gaming?
:?

Awaiting your responses my Friends.

Get Msi twin frozr II gtx 560 @ 15.5k. Much better than 6870.

Yes, you will benefit from a 6 core processor if you intend to do video editing. I suggest you an AMD Phenom 2 x6 1055t @ 7.8k. Your motherboard will support it and is am3 cpu ready. Check HERE.

A Phenom II 1055T will be little heavy for this mobo as the HT link will be downgraded to HT 1.0 from HT 3.0 and will cause bottleneck.
And since Sandy Bridge processors are here, don't spend that much money on Processor right now.

My suggestion will be
Athlon II 640 @ 5K
MSI twin frozr II gtx 560 @ 15.5K
FSP Epsilon 600W Power Supply @ 4.8K

Here suggested an nVidia based card since you have mentioned a bunch of software names which can be benefited by GPU acceleration and nVidia CUDA support is little better compared to its AMD counterpart.

Friends, is there a major difference between the following Corsair TX 850 PSUs?

Corsair TX850

&

Corsair TX850 v2

May i know which online store is selling the PSU from the second link
(TX850 V2)?

Thank you.

the only difference is in their efficiencies
TX 850 is 80+ certified
TX 850 v2 is 80+ bronze certified (+5% efficiency)

and regarding your system

if you can wait for a while, then it would be good for you because intel is going to launch z68 chipset in may (i guess)

and if you are going to buy recently, then go for phenom x6 1055T
it will enhance your experience with the applications you mentioned
and do go for GTX 560 ti @ 14.7k and SLI it in future

Time for a revision now. The config in this thread was attractive in February, now it isn't. And Intel Sandy Bridge is widely available now.

My suggestion will be to start a new thread so that we can explore the options.

You have rightly said, it is time for a revision. I will consider on purchasing the new line of motherboard+processor combination as suggested by many members. But, i will do it steadily.

Presently, an external hard disk is the need of the hour for me. Hence, the decision & subsequently the choice!

Friends, please inform me where i can get a suitable pouch/carry case for the external hard disk which i will be ordering today.

Eagerly awaiting your responses.
