Here goes my existing HCL Branded PC which i bought 4 years ago.
Intel P4 3.0Ghz
Asus P4P800 VM Mother Board
1.256 GB DDR RAM
17" LG CRT Monitor
Nvidia 6200 AGP graphics card.

But since all of its components like MB are outdated,i dont have flexibility to upgrade and hence going for a new PC.

Ok. Now let me tell me my usage:
1.Movies,Movies and Movies!(65% ORIGINAL DVD, 25% DVD Rips NO HD *www.techenclave.com/images/smilies/sad.gif )
2.Web Browsing
3.DVD Ripping
4.C,C++,.Net,Java etc (Have to learn them now*www.techenclave.com/images/smilies/tongu23e.gif )
5.Photoshop.Actually it doesnt matter as i use it just as a hobby and that too i use it very very rarely, like once in a month MAX!

And Very Very Very rare gaming. So rare that i havent played a game from 2yrs.Main reason was lack of interest due to Sh!!!y Graphics card that i have*www.techenclave.com/images/smilies/mad44.gif

So now what i want is a PC that does the above job easily, though even my present PC does, but i want to upgrade.

DISPLAY :
I prefer a BIG Screen. 24" MINIMUM. The higher the better. Actually i thought of going in for a 32" LCD TV but i dont think my budget is sufficient,or is it possible to fit in a 32" LCD TV?(Even grey mkt will do,no prbs with that)

SOUND :
Since i watch lot of Original DVD movies or movies with 5.1ch surround, i want to go for some solid good speakers like Logitech Z-5500.

MISCELLANEOUS :
I also need some decent WIRELESS Keyboard and Mouse Combo. And a GOOD LOOKING case/cabinet.I dont want to store gold in rusted iron dubba*www.techenclave.com/images/smilies/tongu23e.gif

Also do i need any Remote like the Gyration Media Center Remote?I think i need*www.techenclave.com/images/smilies/ohyeah.gif

Finally coming to my budget: Its Rs.60,000 can go up but only if its worth. As i always get last minute bonus from my dad! Once we went to purchase a mobile for 3k but he got me a Sony Ericsson W700i for 10k!

So please suggest me a decent rig.Hope all the details are clear.
And yeah, iam not an Intel or Amd fanboy. So will go for anything VFM

Finally i have made up my mind to go for Z5500:)

So Rs.19000 + Rs.19000(for speakers and display) = Rs.38000

I have ~Rs.25000 left. Please suggest me a good rig giving priority to Proc:

Processor:
Motherboard:
RAM:
Graphics Card:
HDD:
DVD Writer:
PSU:
Cabinet:
Wireless KB/Mouse Combo:
No problem even if it goes little above 25k.

And also do suggest me a sound card.It doesnt include in 25k.Its extra. Iam looking a Xonar or Auzentech.Which one to go for?

I have to buy it within 2 days,So guys please suggest me a good rig fast.

Yeah but i want as big screen as possible and also 24" is Full HD for future proof.
And how does DVDs look on 24" LCD? Will there be blur in the image?

Well u shld re-evaluate things...

24"..i also wanted this...but u have to see this in future tense dear....

u buy a entry level 24" and in 1 year justa year u be getting 24" or more with all the fancy like great panel..hdmi...composite inputs maybe spks..that is just what LCDs are supposed to be..but now u go fr 24" u just get a panel..LOL....its true man..just chk them out...

so after seeing bot the 22'' top-line and 24" basic..i opted for 22" and i say it was worth it..and i saved 5 k...when i earn my money..in my perspective 15k well spend..if i went for 24" i would be wishing for more and ill be hating tht....

so its ur purchase choose wisely..size doesnt matter ..always..hehheheh :)

u thinking of DVD...they look same on 19" and 24"...i guess u r talking abt HD....then 22 and 24 doesnt bring tht difference...but yeas ther is....

and abt full hd..how many movies u have seen so far..the movies from *ahem* source ie. HD downloads are ususually 720 p....that too 4 or 5 GB..if u go for full HD ..i gt one..lone one..transformers..its freaking 8GB.......for things like that 24" a good option....wat i try to tell FULL HD movies are hard to get..atleast for now....when they become widespread..u could also do a upgrade..

believe me and choose wisely kiddo.....u wont be sorry..i promise....

in my gor for the 22" its far betetr than 24" the one u think...otherwise go for the top end 24" its like 35K i guess..u see wat i mean...

truet me dude u wont regret getting it..even better why dont u go see them both personally..ull get it.....

m-jeri

Caballero de Real Madrid
i dunno..for me its in any dealers..they do stock them..coz nowadays lotsa ppl ask abt it....

Ok i think i will be going for 22" LCD. So now please suggest a good rig for it.
Budget 60k - 17k for z5500 so 43k
So 43k for display and rig. Please do suggest a good sound card also.Iam looking at Asus Xonar or Auzentec Explosion

BTW Is Dell SP2208WFP available only in white? Is black not available?

Beleive me u wont be regreting for 22"..or else ask other opinon..or use ur head dummy.....

top-end 22" or base version 24"....hehheheh

and abt the rig for 43K ie 43 - 16 is 27K.....i am sure u get a decent setup....

core2duo is suffice coz games dont use 4 cores anyway and hope u wont be doing rendering..eventhough i dont think 4 cores may be 1 min diff but secs will differ and for some its like paranoid-city.....

for humans 2 cores suffice----for now....
good board...a-bit gt one i think tht borad was fr sale here..ask others...
250G HDD....DVD-RW.....KBB&MOUSE..... all may come to 6k..max...i think
and cabby + smps..invet wisely according to budget ..dnt think abt wattage and brands un-necessarily..... id smps went bad..u can always buy new one..u like..but go for good one....not line antec or anything..but good...

maybe a CM combo may suffice.... i guess maybe 4 to 6 k may go ther too....
but u do have other options as well....cheaper aldeit.but performance "may" take a toll....for paranoids.....hheheh :)

Heres what i have finalised:
Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz E4300-(2MB L2 cache 1.8Ghz 800MHz) - 4400

ABit IP35-E Intel® P35 Exp/ICH9 Chip 1333 FSB - 5400

2 GB Transcend JetRam DDR2 6400 - 1.8k

Seagate/WD 7200.11 320GB Single platter drive - ~3500;

Samsung SH203D SATA DVD-RW - 1200;

POV 500W - 2.5k;

CM690 cabinet - 4.2k

XFX 8600 gt - ~5k

Total ~25k+15k for monitor+17k for speakers so total= Rs.57000

So finally i have Rs.3000 to spend on a GOOD Kb/Mouse combo.
Since i will be buying all these from S.P Road, will i get these components there easily? Any particular shop in S.P Road?

As i said i may get last minute bonus from my dad,i will try to get Nvidia 9600.So i wnated to know which one to buy.XFX or something other? Is it compatible with that motherboard?

Finally do i need to go for any Soundcard? Is Xonar available in India

@shashank_re

Hope this is not late. Here is my configuration for your new PC. I will also give you the reasons for choosing them.

NOTE: The prices here are approximate. May vary +/- ~ Rs. 500.

Essential
1. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.666 GHz 6MB Cache - Rs. 8000
2. Motherboard: ABit IP35-E - Rs. 5500
3. RAM: Corsair/Kingston (2GB x 1) 800MHz - Rs. 3500/2500
4. Graphics Card: eVGA/ASUS/Palit/POV nVIDIA 8600GT 512MB DDR3 - Rs 5000
5. HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 320GB - Rs. 3000
6. Monitor: Dell 24" E248WFP LCD - Rs. 19000
7. Cabinet: Cooler Master CM/RC 690 - Rs. 3500
8. PSU: Corsair HX620W - Rs. 6000
9. DVD Writer: Sony SATA - Rs. 1400
10. Keyboard & Mouse: Cordless Desktop MX 3200 Laser - Rs. 3500
11. Speakers: Logitech Z5500 - Rs. 19000
12. Soundcard: Not Needed, Onboard Good Enough

Total without Speakers: Rs. 58,000, + 4% VAT : Rs. 60,320
Total with Speakers: Rs. 76,000, + 4% VAT : Rs 79,040

Non Essential
CPU Cooler FAN: Cooler Master Hyper TX2 - Rs. 1500
CPU Thermal Paste: Any Good Brand - Rs. 500

Reasons
1. Processor is 45nm. It is fast enough to run the Basic stuff you do all the time. Uses less power than 65nm & gr8 for overclocking also if you plan to do so.
2. M/B - Lot has been discussed about this here (forum). No Comments.
3. RAM - Go fo a single 2GB module. Suppose you upgrade it later, you can get a dual channel mode. If you had gone for two 1GB modules (I know they are running in dual channel now), it would be a waste when you upgrade, since the RAMs would have to be upgraded to 2GB single modules & will be a waste of money.
4. Since you are not much into Gaming, there is no point going for a High End graphics card. The 8600GT would be more than enough for your movie watching, Browsing, Video Encoding & Slight Gaming.
5. I think the 320GB 7200.11 HDD has also been chosen by you. It's fast & is gr8 VFM for its performance.
6. Monitor: I think you will not regret that you have gone for a 24". Here are my reasons for going for this:
* 1920x1200 resolution & Full HD Capable
* Almost all the 22"/24" Dell Ultrasharp Models have S-PVA panels in them & have greater Horizontal/Vertical Viewing angles of 170/170 or 178/178 degrees. Also the Color Reproduction Clarity is SUPERB. So anything other than the ULTRASHARP ones are all Entry level models with some extra features like USB ports, Webcam, Card Reader, etc. Thereby their price varies.
Anyone commenting here that the a particular non Ultrasharp 22" models are better than the 24" Entry level ones have not done their homework properly.
* Read the Review for the Dell E248WFP made by a Digit Forum member
* The Dell 248WFP has D-Sub & DVI-D which are more than enough. If at all you need HDMI, then you can get DVI-D to HDMI connectors.
One more thing is that you try to bargain with the Dell guy for the 24" E248WFP LCD Monitor for around 16-18k with Taxes.

7. Cabinet: Cooler Master CM 690 is one of the best mid sized Cabinets. You can read reviews about them anywhere on the NET & all of them recommend it. Even though it is mid - sized one, it is almost as spacious as a larger Cabinet.
8. PSU - You will be needing a very good PSU which can cope with the current config as well as any upgrades made wrt Processor, M/B & Graphics Card.
9. No Comments on this. Don't go for LG/Samsung/Liteon DVD Writers.
10. Keyboard & Mouse Combo - Logitech Cordless Laser MX3200. Looks Cool & great. Its ergonomics are very good for your hands. My friend has been using this for the past 8months without any problems whatsoever.
11. Well, I can't say anything on this Item. You have already bent upon having this. I know they are very good, but I would have thought twice (even more) before investing 20k for set of 5.1 speakers. I would ask you to reconsider this or go for the one in the 10-12k range since you are sitting on a very limited amount of budget. If your budget can be increased to around 15k more to around 75k, then you can go for this. You can check out this April 2008 Digit Speaker Reviews for this.
12. There is no need for an extra sound card right now. The Onboard speakers do their job wonderfully now a days. If you are hell bent again for investing some more cash, these are the following soundcards from Creative : X-Fi Platinum / Soundblaster Audigy 4 Pro / X-Fi Xtreme Audio.

The other things that may not be essential are a CPU cooler FAN to keep the CPU extra Cool & applying Thermal Paste before fitting your Stock/Any other CPU Cooler Fan.

Regarding the shops to buy from in S.P. Road, here is where I go to regularly for buying computer items:

Pavan Computers
Surabhi Computers

For Cooler Master Products, you can go here:
Zoom Computers

Hope the above helps. Let me know if you have any other clarifications / queries.
