Hello all,

I am looking out to assemble a new desktop system, only for gaming purpose. below are the details in asked format:

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Crysis, Battlefield, assassins creed, upcoming GTA5.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 40k, extendable upto 45k.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Nope

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 8.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1 TB.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Need to buy a new one, a good 21 or 22" would do.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Speakers.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: In 2 Weeks

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: I have built myself before.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Gurgaon. Will look out in local market like nehru place and will try to get good deals online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Will go for Intel/nVIDIA, because i have used products of these brands only and have full trust on them.

Please suggest. currently i have very less idea of products in market these days.

.

At your budget an amd configuration would be the most vfm choice. And i dont understand where people get it from ,but there is nothing like intel/nvdia combo is better than amd/nvdia,it varies from product to product.
AMD is a very reputed brand and you can trust them fully.

Here's the configuration i suggest

Fx 6300 = 7.1k

Gigabyte 970A-DS3 = 5.3k

Kingston 4gb hyperx 1600mhz = 2.2k

Wd cavier blue 1TB = 3.7k

Zotac gtx 650ti Boost 2gb DDR5 =12k

Seasonic s12 520 = 4.2k

Dell 20inch E2014H = 6.2k

BitFenic Merc Aplha cabinet = 2.7k

Logitech Mk200 keyboard & mouse = 0.7k

Total = 44k

Read this (credit to ico)

A small note for people coming with obscure parts of India. There is nothing like "INTEL SUCKS AND OVERHEATS" or "AMD IS BAD AND USES MORE POWER" or "AMD/ATi Graphic cards ARE NOISY AND DON'T SUIT HUMID CLIMATE" or "NVIDIA RUNS HOT AND BLOWS OFF" ......et cetera.

There is _nothing_ like that. Each company makes quality products and has been on top of the ladder in their history. Each company has released bad products and products not to go for too. Examples, Pentium 4 and Pentium D from Intel were absolutely crap compared to competition from AMD - biggest pile of sh!t ever, only dumb people purchased Pentium 4/D and Intel's monopolistic tactics helped bigtime too. Phenom processors by AMD hugely underperformed and were not power efficient (not Phenom II, Phenom II is nice). Radeon HD 2900 XT graphic card by AMD/ATi ran very hot and used high power. Geforce GTX 465/470/480 graphic cards by nVidia were very very hot, consumed huge power and were priced poorly.

So, what you should buy? The choice of what you should buy depends on how much you can spend. Each company has the best product in their portfolio in different price points. For example, people don't think Intel gives you the best (overall) processor in Rs. 6000. So, people might suggest you an AMD processor. Also, people don't think AMD's processor which costs Rs. 12000 is good compared to that of Intel in that amount. So, people might suggest you the Intel one. This is a hypothetical example. What processor is good for what, it will also depend on what type of applications/softwares are you going to use. Hence, the need of this template.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@Nightfury and @Ashish65 -- Ummm..i didnt say that AMD is not good, i just said i would prefer to go for intel as i've used its products only, from start. Please read one's statment carefully before commenting.

I just saw the reviews of 650ti graphics card. Is it possible for me to go for even more better card, cutting some expenses in other parts? as the primary use of system will be gaming.

It's 650 ti boost one, try to get 1.5k more and you might get gtx 660

All parts are the minimum you should go for. If you are in south, you may get NZXT Gamma for 2300 instead of Merc Alpha, but that won't be any significant saving.

same requirement of gaming, budget is 40k excluding monitor (+-INR2000). any other configs?

FX 6300 (7500)
Asus M5A97 R2.0 (7200)
Kingston HyperX blu 1600 MHz 4 GB (2400)
WD Blue 1 TB (4000)
Asus GTX 760 2 GB DCII OC edition (21500)
Antec VP550 (3775)
BitFenix Merc Alpha (3000)

total: 49,375

There is no card available that can utilise the additional bandwidth offered by PCIe 3.0. There is absolutely 0% difference in gaming performance in today's cards when hokked in PCIe 2.0 or PCIe 3.0 slot.

okk..thanks Harshil

Now regarding processor, i just came across Intel i5-3470 processor. little costlier than fx6300 but better in performance. I wont be overclocking anyways. please advice on this.

and for power supply, will corsair vs450 be enough? most probably i will go for a single card, 660gtx. this power supply will cost only 2.2k (flipkart), so even cheaper in market.
or should i go for 550w variant(corsair vs550), costing around 3k?

> Do not go with older gen processors. 3rd gen is already a dead end.

> Corsair VS series PSUs are not good. Stick to Antec VP550P. 450 W will not be enough.

okk.. so what about i5-4440? its of 4th gen, better performer than 6300..priced lesser than 3470 in market

if you can get i5 4440 and asus b85 m g or gigabyte b85m d3h without cutting down on other parts as suggested, then go with that. also try to find seasonic s12 ii 520. antec vp550p is also fine.

Where have you quoted the prices from? GTX 650 at 14k is way too expensive. Get 650ti boost version instead 12.8k max for it. For cabinet, go for NZXT Gamma of BitFenix Merc Alpha depending on availability.

I guess we are talking about 650 Ti Boost, not the 650 Ti version. Op, make sure you're getting GTX 650 Ti Boost version 12.6/13K price pint, not the 650 Ti version.
