1GB RAM is insufficient for heavy multitasking. But seeing your usage i dont think there should be a problem. Also if you get Windows8 on this netbook you'll get more free RAM to work with

For the kind of usage like surfing the internet, running pdf reader and watching movies, a netbook is the best option. A netbook comes at half the price of a nothebook. So Why go for a notebook when netbook can serve your purpose!

For the past one year I'm using a netbook myself and its working very well. It also has 1 GB of RAM and I have not found any problem with it. Unless you plan to use it to play heavy games, it should be just fine. It has an Intel Atom processor and thats also a cool feature that I have also realized from my experience. One of my friends bought a cheap netbook and as it did not have a good processor, he is facing a lots of problems with it.

Well I'm posting from another same kind of thread where I've posted my suggestion:

While buying Netbook, we need to check the following:-

1. What kind of CPu it is using. I think a Dual core one is recommended.
2. Amount of Ram and the maximum size that can be used.
3. HDD size. It is important since netbook users normally carry it, so you should not be out of storage, because netbook normally doesn't come with DVD R/W.
4. Multimedia capability.
5. Battery Life.

Now Atom 4XX series CPUs are very weak as they are single core and offers very poor performance even in common tasks like using multiple tabs in browser or multiple apps.
So better try to get the Atom 5XX series dual core Atoms.

My suggestions are:-

Asus R051PX-WHI004S Netbook (Crystal White) @ 14.9K

Intel Atom Dual Core N570 (1.66 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache)
1 GB DDR3 ram
320 GB SATA 5400 RPM HDD
10" HD Non Glare Display
Intel GMA 3150 IGP
0.3 Mpx Web cam
Wi-fi 102.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth V 3.0
Windows 7 starter 32 Bit
________________________________________________________

HP Mini 110 Series 110-3730TU Netbook (Black) @ 15K

Intel Atom Dual Core N570 (1.66 GHz, 2 MB L2)
2 GB DDR3 Ram
320 GB HDD
10.1" Display with WSVGA LED HP Anti-glare Display @ 1024X600
Dos OS

rest are almost same.

The HP model seems to be a better choice. But it doesnt have any bluetooth facility. But still for its price the deals seems better than the Asus model.

Noramally the Asus aftersales service, at least for their LAPTOP is good As far as I know. It is handled by Rashi Peripherals and they have a very bad reputation when it comes to handle RMA of Computer components like Motherboard, Graphics card etc.
But their Laptop service is good.
Actually if you want perfect balance among CPU performance, Battery life and Graphics power then AMD Dual Core Brazos APU based laptops are best for the purpose. They comes with 1/1.6 GHz dual Core Processors (C-50/E-350) which are more powerful than Intel Atom based dual cores, dedicated HD 6310 DirectX 11 based Fused graphics (GPU is integrated within the CPU) which is far more powerful than Intel HD Graphics or Nvidia Ion based Graphics solution present in Atom based Netbooks and extended batter life. But the cheapest one is 16.7K, little higher than your budget.

If you can extend, then get the Acer Emachine EMD 644 Netbook @ 16.7K. The configs are
:
AMD Brazos E-350 (1.6 GHz, Dual Core, 1 MB L2 Cache)
1 GB DDR3 Ram Upgradable up to 8 GB ( 2 Ram slots)
HD 6310 Dedicated Graphics
320 GB HDD
14.1" screen
802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
BT

Yup, the netbook seems to be the best under 20k IMO. AFAIK no netbook comes with 14.1" screen. So, this really a great deal.
Just by adding another 2GB RAM worth Rs.800, will make it better for multitasking and even gaming too.

I think both the netbooks are good and there are very small differences in features. I would suggest you to decide on the basis of which brand you trust more and the level of after sales service.

I don't think there is any doubt whether any of these netbooks can serve your purpose or not. You don't need a bulky notebook to surf the internet, watch movies, read pdf files and run MS Office.
