My friend has this Vista laptop, Sony Vaio Z140E model, and he thinks Vista sucks. So he wants to use XP on it. But when I boot into the xp disk, it says the disk not found cause obviously the laptop is using a SATA disk. And one needs a controller for that.

Now on my 965RY board, in the BIOS I can change the SATA mode to AHCP or something and it works. But this is nowhere to be found on the crippled BIOS of the Sony. Its like there virtually no configuration options in there.

Any idea what I should do?

Also, this is kind of urgent...

Anyone?

Rebooting
Goobi, there are 2 ways...

1st Load the 3rd party HDD (RAID / SATA) driver when booting with XP CD using Floppy Drive (XP supports only floppy)

2nd is using n-lite (a free software) to integrate the HDD (RAID / SATA) driver driver in to the Windows XP Installation CD so that at time of Booting with it XP will be able to detect the drive...

1st option is out of question as I dont think that Lappy has any FDD  so u have to go through the Long way... :( with the 2nd option...

So what would you need to do ??

1. Please download n-Lite ... *www.nliteos.com/download.html install it in a Windows running system... :D

2. Download the Driver, (Most likelly this is ur Download page, *esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFZ140E&upd_id=2752&os_id=28 )

3. Extract the drivers from their exe format to readable .inf format

4. Follow this bellow Guide to integrate the Drivers to Windows XP Installation CD... *www.nliteos.com/guide/

(even sony download site sucks :p they are giving hte Drivers in a single large pack, they should have given device by device like other brands, as u just need the SATA/ RAID drivers which is just few KBs :p)

5. Once you have successfully integraded the drivers (Specially the HDD (RAID / SATA) Drivers... use this guide on how to burn a Windows XP bootable installation Disk.. *www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=297 please follow the burning part only...

:D

hi guys,
i'm having a similar problem with a vaio vgn-fz11s sata driver while installing windows XP. I have downloaded the .exe format of the drivers but can't figure out how to extract to .inf format. This has stalled my progress with nLite. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the zone
The inf is inside the exe file. Extract the exe either from winrar or just install it to some location and follow chota_cheeta's above post.
