Need portable hard drive

warfreak

Talk to the hand!!!
I needed a portable hard drive and wanted your opinion on below:

Dell Backup Plus 1TB USB 3.0 Portable hard drive - Dell: Flipkart.com

WD My Passport Ultra 2.5 inch 1 TB External Hard Drive - WD: Flipkart.com

WD Elements 2.5 inch 1 TB External Hard Drive - WD: Flipkart.com

I don't care for extra software but reasonable datacopy speed is a must since I will be doing a lot of data transfers.

I own the WD My Passport Ultra 2.5 inch 1 TB External Hard Drive. I purchased it for Rs. 4070 from Flipkart few days ago. Finishing and design is good, a girl from my house dropped it and it stopped working, but then I noticed the bent port on the drive's connecting cord, straightened it, and it started working normally again!! :)

The Flipkart page's claimed speed is 5 Gbps (Giga "BITS" per second), which is around 625 MB (Mega "BYTES")/ second. But I doubt whether its actual, because the Hard Disk packaging & manual doesn't mention this speed at all. Could be an error on Flipkart.
Of course, the pack does mention USB 3.0 so it is high speed than USB 2.0 for sure.

Transfer speed I actually received is around 80 MB/s. This could be due to my Laptop's hard disk/ resources limitation. You may get better on a different system, because some are claiming 105 MB/s.

Its quite silent and vibrations are negligible, so that's a good news.

I'm using it and finding it good for my needs. Even 80 MB/ second is good enough for transferring movies. I haven't yet tested this drive on USB 2.0, so can't confirm its USB 2.0 speed.

+1 to wd my passport ultra

I bought it few days ago from flipkart. I got 125MB/s highest on a single 14GB file but when you are copying small files speed varies from 60-85MB/s
