Software engineers do not need MBA. Once you do MBA you no longer remain an engineer but become a manager or analyst, basically you move away from writing code and technical stuff. But that will definitely benefit your career if you do it from a reputed institution, think India top 20.
Specialization can be anything, that's the beauty of MBA, every sector has its requirements, good with numbers? Finance, good with Speaking skills? Go for Sales. Good with analytical skills? Go for Marketing, or just go with whatever you want. The MBA tag is more important than your specialization, specially the institution tag.
