My father needs to buy a new phone. He mainly uses a mobile for talking (so a decent battery with good talktime is a must) and mails and documents. So, he's also looking for a phone for good pushmail features, email synchronisations and documents viewer and editor for word, excel, pdf files etc.

We've zeroed down to WP and Android as the other OS's dont really stand up to these two. I've read a lot about WP recently and the reviews look quite good. There's not much to say about Android, it's still the world leader. The phones listed above seemed the best-fit choices as per our requirements, with the two Windows phones seeming more and more attractive by the day.

Please suggest the perfect buy for my father from the above options or any other phone I've missed out that you think fits the bill. Hoping for swift replies! Thanks!

Yes android phone is highly recommended but if your dad is not into much apps and all then WP will be fine for him, in that case Omnia W is good option for him.
Apart from that Neo V is a very good android phone and it costs 16k or less. Can have a look at One V too.
And if you are strict with your budget then Live With Walkman for 12.5k with a small screen is a good phone too.

Xperia U has just 4Gb internal memory and no external SD card slot :p ..i dont recommend it

better increase ur budget a little and go for HTC ONE V around 16.5-17k :)

OTG cable will solve the memory problems a bit in Xperia U. Moreover, for most people 4 GB is enough.

4 GB is quite enough if you don;t plan on having too many videos [ and really , even though people will cringe about their music collection being much more than 4 GB , it is only afew favourites that we listen to most often ]

But the OTG cable is a good added feature at most, it is not a substitute for memory card.

WP seemed attractive until I discovered a few limitations, which according to my dad'd needs are catastrophic. For instance, you can't attach any file pther than a photo to e-mails, you can't transfer anything other than music, photos and apps from the Zune software. There's no file manager, etc etc. infact I found a page with a host of such disadvantages, many of which had a direct bearing on my decision. So, I have decided to drop WP from the agenda and look at Android only. Neo V's best price is around 16k, which overshoots my strict budget. Same with the HTC One V. Live with Walkman is a good bet, but again the screen size is a dampener. Help me out!

I am not sure if 4 GB would suffice on a smartphone. Plus, it has a HD video recorder, so videos would take up substantial space until one transfers them to another space drive. Being an android, the apps do tend to take up a lot of space. It's a matter of taking a risk, because accessories like OTG cables, microcables etc might not be very comfortable to carry or use for a busy professional.

It would have been such an easy choice if only Sony had provided an external slot for memory expansion. Shuks!

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman or Sony Xperia U.

I will personally not recommend Windows Phone
Anupam, WP seemed all hunky-dory until I read this:

You can easily get Neo V for 16k, now if you bargain hard you can lower down the price lil bit more.
Would not recommend Xperia U coz of low storage.

I just read the Sony Xperia U white paper. It says that the total internal memory stands at 8GB but internal storage available to user for multimedia is 4GB with 2GB each dedicated to system and phone memory i.e. phone apps and system files will be taken care of in the allocated 4GB, which leaves the remaining space to the user for multimedia, which I find to be okayish and workable.

But I've also heard that the audio quality, both on external and on headsets is quite poor for a Sony. Have anything to say about that?

Also, Neo V is exceeding my budget, I ran down to my local electronics market and the best quote I got was 16.5k, further bargaining wouldn't yield much. The best online price too stands at around 16.5k, so Neo V is out of reckoning I guess.

Tell me more about the Xperia U and Ray.

Xperia U has pretty good audio quality from what I know. Not outstanding but better than 2011 Xperia models including Ray and Neo V

And the Galaxy Ace 2? The specs seem to be pretty good but the expected price is INR 18000. Any idea if that is a fair assumption?

I think Ace 2 won't be launched in India . It's been a while it was released in Europe. Better to take the leap and go for the One V , maybe Xperia Sola even ...

You can also go for Nokia Lumia 610. I am using this phone and its quiet good. The design is sleek and smart easy to handle. Affordable windows phone in cool and funky colors with Nokia music, Nokia maps and Nokia drive.
