Hi.
I need to to assemble a CPU (no monitor/UPS) for following regular usage :
  • Serious gaming
  • Computer programming
  • lots of data transfer in LAN
  • Consistent downloading (System will be on for days at a stretch)
  • multimedia usage

I have selected following components :
  • Motherboard
    • Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
    • Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
  • Processor
    • Intel® Core™ i3-2125 Processor (3M Cache, 3.30 GHz)
    • Intel® Core™ i3-2130 Processor (3M Cache, 3.40 GHz)
  • Graphics Card
    • nVidia GeForce GTX 560
    • nVidia GeForce GT 520
    • nVidia GeForce GTX 460 SE

I will take care of any other component required.

I have given my choices above. Please let me know which combination is best within 20k-30k budget. Also, please let me know if there is any other good combination.

Moreover, I need to know if we can connect an XBox 360 to a computer monitor.

Your input will be much appreciated. Thank you.

There's no need to get a Z68 mobo for a non sku cpu and for serious gaming you should get a K sku intel SB cpu with some decent Z68 mobo.

For Gfx card GTX 560 Ti or HD6950 is good enough but that depends on at what resolution you play games and you will need a decent psu for those powerful gfx cards.

@ kabzzy - Dude 1st of all change the name of the thread. You not only want a CPU but also a MoBo & GPU so the name of the thread is misleading.
Now coming to the matter in hand - which PSU have you planned to buy or if you already have then can you let us know from which c/o is it & also the model? And like topgear has already asked what resolution do you plan to game at?

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A:
Serious gaming - with individual games' high settings (No online multiplayer)
Data transfer on LAN
Computer prigramming
Multimedia (HD Movies, Music, video, photo and sound editing)

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: I am open to suggestions

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 20-25 k (only for CPU)

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Windows Vista Ultimate x86

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: I have planned for 1.5 TB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: Planning for an 19' LED monitor. Games will be played on highest widescreen resolution possible

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 7

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: I have always assembled my PCs myself

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: Dec, 2011

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: Atleast for next 2-3 years

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: None

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Bangalore. I will get me parts from city shops

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: Need the computer to be "freeze proof".

@topgear :
  • I am planning for a Z68 mobo as it has firewire and USB 3.0 support. I am bit inclined to Intel mobos so I have selected them .
    However, new suggestions are welcome
  • I have lots of experience with computer programming but I was never much of a gamer. So I can say that I will play the games at the highest possible widescreen resolution for the individual games. Would you like to suggest a re which is good along with a good monitor within Rs.4500 (possibly with HDMI)

@ssb1551 :
  • I have a decent PSU, however, I will buy a new one if I have to. as mentioned above, any suggestions are welcome.
  • Sorry for being such a naive that I am not sure how to change the thread name

I think he's calling the cabinet and all its contents the CPU. Many of my friends still call the cabinet CPU

@above :

Yes, that is correct. I was using the tradition terminology.

I will be clear here.

I need to assemble a rig and the budget I mentioned is for the mobo, processor, a cabinet(with extra fans/SMPS if required), any PCI/PCIe cards required. I already have HDD so HDD is not included in the budget.

Dude 25k just for CPU!!..I was thinking of suggesting i7 2600k but even that costs at max 15-16k. I hope guru_urug is right in making the statement that you mean the entire cabinet & contents inside it, not the CPU only. Well if thats true then you should change the answer to Q8 to a bit lower:wink:..just kidding..

You say you already have a decent PSU. Can we know of which company & whats the model no.??
