1. Seagate Barracuda, should cost around 2.8k.
2. No, not all hdd support it, all new drives do, older ones do not as the specification was finalized 1 or 2 yrs back.
3. No, normal hdds cannot saturate even sata 2 speeds let alone sata 3, sata 3 speed is utilized better by SSDs. So doesn't matter if its sata 2/3, speed will be same.
4. Transfer rate means data transfer rate, it can be data written to hdd, or data read from it, or both at same time.

This is the drive you are looking for:
3.5 Inch SATA Hard Drives with Ultra ATA Software Technology | Seagate

If you buy locally, then check the sticker on the drive, it should mention sata speeds clearly.

Also note, when buying, look at the rpm of the drive on the sticker, buy ONLY 7200RPM drive, do not buy 5400RPM drives for os install etc, cause they are too slow.

You can buy Western digital hdd also provided you get the blue model(blue sticker on drive) its 7200RPM, green one is 5400RPM, do not buy it(green sticker).

Transfer rates from another internal HDD can go up to 100 MB per second. From external it should be around 70-80 MB per second from eSata or USB 3.0 and upto 35 MB per second from USB 2.0

However, these rates will vary depending on the HDD, percentage of free space, fragmentation of the files, type of file being copied, motherboard etc.

BTW, just in case you don't know, 100 MBps = 800 mbps, the b matters a lot. See this *www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-difference-between-mbps-and-mbps.htm

Does it mean that getting a sata 3 ( 6gbs/s) supported HDD is equivalent to getting a sata 2 HDD...

the link u mentioned shows only a sata 2 HDD...how much does a sata 3 1 tb
HDD cost..

Yes, I told you already, normal hdds cannot utilized even SATA II speeds let alone SATA 3, if you get both drives @ same price then buy the more modern one(SATA III) but if you get the SATA II a little cheaper, buy it.

Like this: Seagate 1 TB SATA Desktop 3.5" Internal HDD (1000 GB)

And one more thing, SATA II and SATA III drives and ports are compatible, so you can use SATA II drive in SATA III port using a normal sata cable.

Although there is no advantage in HDDs are far as SATA II and SATA III are concerned, I've seen that, if there is more bandwidth available, things tend to run a little faster. So the speeds of SATAIII hdd may be a little higher (although this is arguable). In any case, if the price difference is within 100-200 bucks, it would be better to buy SATAIII
