Hello co-TDF folks! :)

Since, i am tired of taking out printouts of books that are not available in India(solely programming books by foreign authors), i am looking to get a good VFM E-Book reader(yes, that is what the tab will be used for)

Must have :

Sturdy body
Good viewing angles
Good screen
GOOD BATTERY BACK-UP
Good Touch

No looking for primarily Fancy ICS things!
Have thought about Kindle, wished an iPad2 but it is way too costly :(

Kindle Touch (Wi-Fi version) is available for 10,349 here & 139$(~7k) here!

What to buy, where to get the best deal from?

^^ Tablets are the way to go for this kind of uasge.

Give the recently launched micromax funbook a good look.

At 6.4k price, the deal is irresistible considering the hardware its offering which are a 1.2ghz cortex A8 cpu and dual MALI 400 mp gpu ( yes, the ones you find in galaxy note and high end galaxy tabs) with 512mb ddr3 ram and a full multitouch capacitive display.

Check the following:

Could not find any solid reviews for Funbook, one at TOI said, the display is really bad! How can we compare it to an e-book reader like Kindle ?
The h/w is good, read all about it, the day it was launch! But is it one, to be considered over the sturdy Kindle ?
Facing lags in the UI or while reading books will be really irritating!
A bad display with even worse viewing angles wont make things good in case of Funbook, i suppose! Whats your say ?

I'm sure you won't be facing UI lags in this one courtesy the powerful hardware.
It can run 1080p videos flawlessly and reading pdf's should be piece of cake and no UI lag for sure.

Its sturdy as well and no build quality issues except the buttons up front as the reviewer said them to be plasticky and wished it had touch buttons for that overall feel. But then at 6.4k, you can't ask for more.

The display is ok and not bad at all for your usage. It has no IPS display for sure but reading pdf's straight on won't have anything to do with viewing angles.

I would say grab it cause its a steal at this price. 1.2ghz A8 + mali 400mp +512mb ram = No lag of any sort. :)
Besides i'm gonna be getting one soon for the same purpose as yours.

For review, check the following thread:

you might wanna take a look at this NOOK® by BARNES & NOBLE, World's largest bookstore - Barnes & Noble

One of my frnd has it, and it is cheap and you have a lot of books to choose from. Read some reviews about this.

if you are planning to read PDF with diagrams and pictures, forget kindle.
If only ebooks without pictures kindle is definitely the best choice.
Tablets are nice for magazines, comics etc but the LCDs do cause significant eye fatigue.

are u happy with funbook for reading?

Yeah, the brightness levels are extremely good, i prefer 20-30% of it while reading! No lags! Swift and clear!

congrats for the purchase...did you try comparing it with kindle?? How is it?

I havnt used Kindle, but if you want a lil multimedia to go along the ebook reading, Funbook is literally FUN! A total VFM, not just saying coz i own it, but coz i find it.

If you want, a sheer ebook specialist, the e-ink technology makes Kindle a clear winner, though i am liking the kindle app on my funbook! ;)

PS : Sorry for the late replies!
