Need a stable config for my parents

Hi all,

I own a five year old computer which is starting to fail now. I therefore decided to upgrade it before I leave home.
Here are certain requirements
I am looking for stability. Last thing I want is my parent calling me up every weekend about something going wrong. However, this is more of a software issue.

  • A cheap quad core with accompanying Motherboard. I won't be overclocking it for obvious reasons. Will prefer something with good Sound Output to drive my Altec Lansing MX5021.(2.1)
  • around 4gbs of RAM because my sis loves to open 40+ chrome tabs!
  • One TB HDD@7200RPM to go along with my 320GB HDD
  • Good Power Supply
  • Decent UPS
  • A case for all above. I own two 120mm fans so it would be amazing if it can fit these in.
I already own speakers, gfx card(7300GT), monitor (20"), a 320GB HDD

Also, this system will be running 24x7.( Due to torrents) So something with good power management would be appriciated too.

Budget hasn't been given to me. But I guess a basic config like this shouldn't cross 20-30k. And i Hope it doesn't. :)

AMD Athlon II X4 630 - 5k
Biostar TA785G3 HD - 3.9k
Kingston DDR3 1333 Mhz RAM - 5k
WD Green 1 TB - 3.4k
FSP Saga II 400W - 2k
Cooler master elite 310 - 1.5k
UPS - 3k (suggestions needed)

Total - ~24k

Should serve your family well for web surfing, movies, music and all
In case your 7300GT connects to AGP port, you won't be able to connect it to this PC as it has only PCIe slots. there are no motherboards with AGP slots available any more.

Prices are not very accurate, but total should be around this only, give or take some 500 bucks.
You can go with cooler master elite 310 with side window if its available, this will allow to put your fans in

Thanks Buddy. 7300GT connects to PCI-E only. Although I have no idea whether it is superior to HD4200 or not.
Also, aren't Green Drives 5400rpm drives? Although I can use my WD 320GB drive as OS drive, and a Green Drive as data drive.

7300GT DDR2 = HD3300/4290. so get a board based on HD4200. it'll b little slow than 7300GT. i'll suggest these:

Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz @ 4.8k
Biostar TA785G3 HD @ 4.2k
Transcend 2Gb DDR3 @ 2.8k
Samsung F3 Eco 1Tb @ 3.5k
FSP Saga II 400W + Cooler Master Elite 310 @ 3.8k
APC 550VA @ 1.8k

total is 20.9k.

add 2Gb extra ram if needed. also add a HD5570/5670 if you feel your PC need extra boost.

no need to get gpu if not gaming.... bio* mobo has got 128md sideport memory as well as hd 4200 igp which is more than enough for blue-ray watching as well as casual gaming....

fsp saga II 500w is more than sufficient for him.... better get 400w and save some bucks....

no need of getting cm usp 100 for this.... its a basic rig.... get cm 310 or even zeb bijli....

I mentioned the price of TA785G3 in place of TA785G3 HD by mistake.

I don't know if Green drives are 5400RPM, WD website mentions it as intellipower. I suggested thinking on your lines only, I thought since the system will have 2 HDDs, so the green will draw less power & the 320GB will serve as primary.

All configs are almost similar, so you can decide easily.

ok, that's why the green drives are cheaper. I thought it was 7200RPM only, just adjusting according to requirement. Then It's ok for data storage

even the samsung eco f3 is a 5400 RPM hard drive. where did you come to know that they are 7200 RPM?
i saw it on Samsung's website, so it has to be correct. Because even if they publish wrong info, they'll overstate it, never understate

And I bought WD Green 500GB with 32 MB cache for 2050 including tax, did I overpay? I thought green would not be available, so I got so excited about the green drive that I didn't enquire in any other shop, simply bought it for that price

oops my mistake. F3 Spinpoint are 7200rpm. EcoGreen are 5400rpm.

Samsung Spinpoint F3 500Gb.

Samsung F3 EcoGreen 500Gb.

no. its correct price. cause 16Mb 7200rpm drives (blue) cost around 2100-2200. and i think you wanted to tell "blue".
