A: Office work like MS Office, Tally, Internet Explorer

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: Yes, open to alternate ideas.

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 15k max

4. Planning to overclock?
A: No

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: Win XP SP3

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 500 GB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: Don't need monitor, no graphics card either.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 7

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: Kolkata

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: this is to be a very basic pc. Like I mentioned no intensive work to be done. The budget should not cross 15 k by even a penny. this may sound odd but this needs to be done. I think all I need is a CPU, mobo, ram, cabby, psu, hdd and an optical drive.

I don't think 4 gigs of ram is needed. Could the extra 2 GB be swapped for a better cabinet? It might be just me but I don't really want Zebronics.

Also is there an Intel equivalent for the above suggestion. I'm not biased but just wanna keep my options open.

Yes i don't think you need 4gigs of RAM for the purposes you have mentioned, instead get the NZXT GAMMA cabinet for around 2k

and 2 GB RAM

If 4GB is really not needed, then get 2GB and save the remaning 1.1k.
For cabinet Bijli is the best for 1k. But if u want something else, then use that 1.1k left for CM Elite 310 at 1.5k.

For intel based rig, the cheapest config even will come 4k more than this. Better go with this one. Its the best config possible in 15k budget.

EDIT:
Even if you get GAMMA, dont go for it, coz for GAMMA you have to change your PSU to Corsair CX400 at 2.5k which is 0.8k more as FSPs cables will be shorter for GAMMA.

With another 0.9k, OP can get Phenom II x4 840 at Rs 4900.

It has a 300 MHz speed increase and lower power comsumption(due to newer power saving instruction sets from amd) than its athlon ii x4 635 sibling, resulting in more future proofing+ more savings.

You can check out its power consumption here: AMD Phenom II X4 840 3.20 GHz Review - Page 10/12 | techPowerUp

The newer power saving instructionS were introduced from athlon II x4 645,
resulting in the newer athlons and particularly this phenom(which is actually based on the athlon core)with much lower consumption than its older siblings(ie, 620,630,635 and 640).

The above said config is more than enough for OP's needs....

Forget the speed increase. My point is, if he uses it for office work, power consumption will be an important factor. He will be using it for a very long time. Therefore this extra 0.9k that he will spend will be easily compensated by lower power bills.

Not to mention the overall increase in performance and hence future proofness!!
