why don't you try for the ASUS zenfone 4 or 4.5. I am not sure of the zenfone 4.5 released or not, but I tried hands on redmi 1s and performance is not as of the hardware. MIUI is not likely to my taste(person to person depends). it does not deliver any feel of kitkat version.
Screen is not good in sun light, camera is said to be 8 MP but give satisfactory results. although other members are already pointed out the bad RAM management of redmi 1s, I personally observed the same with only 120+ mb RAM available out of 1GB with only few apps installed. Even Micromax canvas fun A76 with 512 mb RAM have better RAm management than redmi 1s.
It's not bad to give a try for ASUS zenfone 4 as you are a first time android user. or your budget allows go for ASUS Zenfone 5 with 8GB internal memory and 2Gb RAM anytime. I don't understand still how people draw up their buying choices reading flipkart reviews? More than half of what is written is carp junk.
Unless if you haven't used a device please don't pour in derogatory thought by just reading a review, take it with a pinch of salt.
At least with v 41 updates a lot of the problems of Redmi 1S has been fixed, mainly heating and free memory.
Then there is a catch to it, if you can get hold of one during the flash sale then your lucky.
At your price point you can't enjoy all goodness some compromises have to be done!

Yes there are updates and CM and all, but when you have bugs in a mobile out of the box you should consider twice after buying.
The last choice is of OP, weather he is into CM, rooting and all or he would want a day-to-day phone.

Its all upto you, without using a Redmi I cant tell how it is but again people have issues.

You gotta be a gunslinger from Texas to get that fudging crap from flippy.
I would say even after all the Roms the device itself has the problems.It has a OCed chip same as Moto g clocked at 1.2 on it. So that's hardware issues, moreover i think even after all the CM it still lacks what is called "A good experience".

Same specs and assured updates for 2years.
not even close to being the best.
I have been using this phone for long now and had a wonderful experience with it.
Though both the companies are not that great but micromax provide better after sale service than Karbonn
