Need 2 TB hard drive

I built a config months back with the help of forum members:

It has a WD Caviar Blue 500GB

- Now I need to put an additional internal hard drive, MAINLY for storage (going to transfer all my data from over 200 DVDs to it) , but will also install games and all software on it. Then few months later I will get an SSD for the OS

- So I guess reliability with time is important, but looking for a decent mix of performance and price

- My budget is 5-7k (7k max)

- Will buy from flipkart, been looking at Seagate barracuda 2TB and WD Caviar Green 2 TB, confused between the 2

- Could also go for a 1TB one if there is one with exceptional performance

- If there is some thread about something like this, please direct me there

THANKS!

Better get a Toshiba DT01ACA200 ,2TB. Its a good one at Rs 6000. It has a warranty of 3 years. Which no WD and Seagate offers.

I would suggest a 5900 RPM drive, you say you'll get a SSD , so no point in spending for 7200 RPM drive.

No point in buying just 1 TB for storage just to get better speed, you'll hardly need the marginally extra speed.

Back to school!!
If you want it for storage get WD Green, else go for Toshiba, if you want reliability go for WD Black.

but WD Green series has a relatively lower reputation compared to similar seagate 5900rpm eco series when it comes to reliability.

Point noted. But the Seagate 2 TB page on flipkart says it is 7200 rpm , the WD Green is 5900 rpm, at the same price.

Seagate Barracuda 2 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (ST2000DM001) - Seagate: Flipkart.com

WD Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD20EZRX) - WD: Flipkart.com

I always get confused between the WD Caviars. Which one is it that everybody suggests NOT to get? Isn't it the green, or is it blue?

WD Green officially has no fixed rpm(aka intellipower© technology) but best approximation using indirect ways is ~5400rpm.7200rpm drive is faster than 5400rpm drive but for storage purposes speed doesn't matter much so only question is reliability(green series is a bit behind seagate according to some reviews on net) or warranty & after sales service(WD is definitely ahead of seagate here).
