18 Till I Die............
Installed OpenSuse today. Looks great and detected all of my hardware (only selected wrong frequency for the monitor). Got loads of softwares stuffed in there. I used 10 GB of space for it and installed all the softwares bundled with the DVD. Took a loooooooooong time to install, well over an hour. It has a good visual appeal too. But, seems a bit on the slower side compared to slackware(my other linux distro on this comp). Had my first look at YAST. Its really cool. Though YOU seemed to take forever to update. In whole day it only downloaded 44% of mozilla's update. I installed GNOME as well as KDE. I did have a look at GNOME but am looking forward to using it next time. Lack of multimedia support was one -ve point. I've got lots of MP3's and you gotta install MP3 plugins to play them. Am looking forward to using beagle which is said to work best with GNOME. Its really a newbie friendly distro. What do you guys say about it?

I also installed it a week ago. It creates many problems to me. It makes my system freeze. Although it is good at look but slower than my red hat 8.

@tech: Suse 10 has yum. Why not Use it for much faster d/l and updating.
Here are my views:
1. Mp3 support is just due to licensing stuff's, it' aint a -ve point.
2. It's a good newbie friendly distro! J'acceptes
3. GNOME has been improved to a gr8 deal. Good to see SuSe doin that  .
4. I feel that Yast in suse 9.3 was better. In terms of approach and modules. A Lot of those yast modules have been removed.
5. Has beagle and kat integrated into gnome and kde respectively.
6. No Sun Java. Of course that's due to some legal stuff I guess.

Got those mp3 plugins and now i can play my mp3's :).
YAST did work properly the second time. But, one problem was that i couldn't use other servers mentioned on the suse site except the default ones.
Beagle search feature was great.
GNOME looks better than I've seen before. But, still it doesn't appear like a part of the distro like KDE or FF or OOo.org which have been given a very suse look.
I don't think KAT has been integrated in KDE yet but beagle into GNOME,yes.
Yeah so much work installing all non-OSS stuff.
I was unable to install yum but guess its fine AFA YAST works.
Biggest hurdle came while installing VLC. It needs so many dependebilities. IS there any better way to install VLC then using RPM?

But that is due to licensing clause and it is only in OpenSUSE. if u buy SUSE 10.0 you can get all those essential stuff stuffed in. Not their fault that they want to avoid legal hassles.

Or use Pc Linux OS which comes bundled with all multimedia codecs (including mp3, realplayer, even w32codecs!!) plus java, flash. Using its livecd I could play EVERY media file on my PC!!! Even region-free DVDS! But for encrypted DVDs u only need libdvdcss2 and ur done. It looks awesome too! I think its better than Suse in these matters 8)

Has anyone tried it? I got it from my cousin when he came to india for a week from US.

Its really great try it once.
