My Computer Icon Missing from Everywhere !!

This time the problem is a typical one.I don't know how all this happened.I was trying to use a lot many softwares to change the look of windows to mach that of a Mac.In this process i lost My Computer ( I've named it Max,you'll see it in the screenshots i've provided.)

This first screenshot given below shows that there is no My Computer or Recycle Bin in the start menu as well as on the desktop.I'm Using RK launcher to give my desktop a Mac look.

I tried everything possible to gain access to My Computer (Max).I used the Icon provided in the RK launcher menu to open up My Computer.I've shown the icon in the screenshot provided below.Even though i'm able to gain access to Max still no use.It is not showing anything in My Computer (Max).

I also tried using Display Properties to display items on desktop,but no use.The My Computer and My Documents Icons are greyed out,so i'm not able to select them.

Even Browser windows (such as those shown in various programs incl. Winamp....Screen shot provided) is also not showing My computer and Recycle Bin.

Now i can only gain access to my drives either by using the "Run" dialog box or through Internet Explorer's Address bar.
Is there anyone on this forum who can solve my problem!!

+ user cofig
++ admin template
+++desktop

Why don't u try to uninstall the s/w, which u used to change the loook and set the default Luna theme.
May be it can solve the prob?

One problem solved !!

All Right Partners the problem is solved.Someone has said "Please search the forum before posting" and

now i can bet that every word said is true.I searched the forum and found a link

with the help of a reply posted by alib_i which says --


i hope you have windows xp professional

go to start -> run -> type gpedit.msc and enter
go to Computer config -> user config -> admin templates
-> control panel -> display
disable following entries
# hide appereance and themes tab
# hide desktop tab
in display subfolder disable :: remove theme option


I was able to solve my problem.Not exactly following the steps above but as following ( A little

modification )

Go to start -> run -> type gpedit.msc and press enter.
Go to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Desktop.

disable the following entry

# Remove My Computer icon on the desktop
# Remove My Documents icon on the desktop

This solved the following problems i had :-

1) Got back My Computer icon on the desktop,start menu,browser windows ( eg.Winamp etc.)
2) All the contents of my computer were visible now.
3) Got back the My documents icon at all the places.
4) The greyed out radio box problem in the display properties is also solved.


I'm still having the following problem -- "Not able to acces the Recycle Bin".There is no way i'm able

to poen the recycle bin.
When i try to access recycle bin from the icon in the RK Launcher.It give me with the following error

"The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Create an association

in the Folder Options control panel."
