My Android is slow :(

Hi,

I got myself my first ever android on 8th Jan,12 in the form of Motorola Defy Plus. I loaded my gadget with few apps like angry birds, defender , juice defender, and look out mobile security along with a few others.

I t worked great for a few days bur from the fourth day it started showing a bit of lag. While loading apps it takes a few seconds before the actual app screen comes up, be it messaging, Facebook or any other. At times even the widgets on the home screen too took some time to appear.

Now as this is my first android I'm really not sure about how to deal with this.I goggled out on the lag but tried some tricks like removing unnecessary apps and installing GO Launcher(didn't install Launcher Pro as I read in the comments that it has no updates for Ginger Bread).

How can I remove this issue of lag. Please Suggest.

Clear cache. Settings>Applications>select app and clear cache (not data).

Remove useless apps. Free up internal memory by moving apps to SD card (same place as above). Widgets won't work if you do this. So be careful.

Welcome to Android :))

Clear unnecessary apps, in dire situations root it and clear bloatware from internal memory.

Android and lag go hand in hand. You have to tweak it yourself to max its performance.

Download these: free apps:

Root...freeze the bloats....remove if you know what you are doing...clean cache....install a light launcher(Zeam is the lightest and gets done the basics)...try to avoid those fancy themes and widgets.
Instead of Custom ROMs make your own ROM from the stock and use a custom kernel.

Use a task killer such as advanced task killer. It may be slow if you have multiple apps running at once.

Task killers are gimmicks mostly. Android is not Windows, things work differently there.

I had read somewhere that one should avoid transferring apps to SD card as they may take a longer time in to load from it as long as its not a class 10 card. And also Motorola defy plushas 512mb of internal memory and I Suppose it should be enough to hold the limited no of apps. Please correct me if I am wrong. :)

AS am a novice in the feild of Android can you please help me understand about rooting. May be some link where I can delve more into rooting.

Besides is rooting the only option or we have some other way out of it. :)

Rooting is good, but I doubt it would help you much... unless you are willing to flash custom ROM and kernel... It is complicated, so read about it. Don't rush... My sister has a non-rooted Samsung Galaxy SL on stock ROM, and it is quite fast and smooth...

Please use static wallpapers, not live wallpapers. Also, changing launchers helps...

When I was a newbie Android user a year ago, I did something on my Optimus One which really increased. A super lean launcher... Search for "Gingerbread Launcher" by Modaco. It is super fast and lean. Very simple... Highly recommended.

EDIT: Also, remove juice defender, lookout security and any kind of task killers you might have installed. They will destroy your user experience... And they are completely useless.

The only one I recommend is Fast Reboot... Thats all you need...

Cheers!
