He wants a standaloe player, not a computer "media player".
I am using the Ondia DVD player currently. Its good, plays scratched DVDs to an acceptable degree and hasnt broken down ever.
i suggest you get the DVD rercorder from sansui [or was it samsung?]. Just saw it in vijay sales. It can record TV programs effortlessly directly on DVD media, without any hassels. It costs 11K andis avialable in black and silver.

Guys he is asking for a standalone DVD player!!!!!
Buy a Philips DVD Player. I have one too, it can play VCD/DVD, Photo CD (JPEG), MP3.
You can checkout new models of Philips DVD Player that can play DivX, xVid etc.,
Go for Philips, best quality, reasonable price, very good after sales service.
I'm using Philips DVD Player for the last 3 years without any problems.

in my knowlege, there are DVD players easily available supporting those, except xvid, now I'm not sure if such players are out....... but u'll get divx players easy around.

Phillips DVP 642K is cheap. It plays Divx too , (Divx with GMC, QPel not supported). Unlike most new models it works well with packed bitstream and Divx 3.11.

Please... he wants HARDWARE, not SOFTWARE

Sab log.. VLC.. VLC... kehte jaa rahe ho, but no one's looking into his real prob...

Ok... ur best options lie in Philips range, impressive Divx players, reads a wide variety of Divx formats, also reads dvd, mp3, video, audio cds, incl. DVD/CD-RW ones. Also reads DivX ultra(which could include even subtitles)

The latest DVP5965K (cost 6k) has karaoke & video upscaling (better quality picture) with HDMI connection.

He wants a hardware player not software for the PC. Aren't you people reading the posts before writing anything.

I Always Prefer 1080p
Nowadays in the market we generally find DivX Players but even then some of them have encoding issues making them unable to play some movies encoded with DivX v 6

Regarding XviD,I am damn sure
there is not a single standalone hardware player in the world market
supporting XviD Codec:mad:

My friend owns a Phillips Slimline DVD/DivX Player:)
He has no issues playing DivX Videos but none of the movies encoded in XviD Codec plays in his Player:mad:

I think the such single(!) player is owned by my friend which plays xvid , i think jguru here has the same player , wait for his confirmation.

this is from wikipedia
XviD is a free and open source MPEG-4 video codec. XviD was created by a group of volunteer programmers after the OpenDivX source was closed in July 2001.
XviD encoded files can be written to a CD or DVD and played in a DivX compatible DVD player, as long as they are not encoded using features unsupported by DivX (e.g. three warppoints instead of one), since such features are not considered "MPEG-4 compliant" by DivX.
