MSI R5770: Dual Monitor

I have an MSI R5770 Hawk graphics card on an i7 with Biostar TZ68K+ mobo. I want to set up a dual monitor set up.
The graphics card has:
DisplayPort x 1
Dual-link DVI x 1
HDMI x 1

I also have have two monitors, and they are:
LG L1952S and Asus VW192s

Both are 19 inch monitors with only VGA ports on them. I have with me the following components:
2 x VGA-DVI adapters
2 x DVI-DVI cables
1 x HDMI-VGA cable

I tried connecting 1 monitor with the VGA-DVI adapter. It works fine. I connected the other monitor using the VGA-HDMI cable. It shows "Check Signal cable". When I swap the monitors, the one connected to the DVI port works.
As of now, the monitor connected to the HDMI port isn't getting detected.
What could be the problem? I have updated ATI CCC to the latest version.

AFAIK, if both the monitors are using VGA interface, they won't work in arallel.

Oh okay. Then how do you think I can use both my VGA monitors side by side? The cheapest method?

I think I found my problem. I had bought a VGA to HDMI cable when what I actually needed was the opposite. That is the HDMI to VGA cable.

Such a cable costs Rs 2,012 on ebay. Is it a good buy? I'm worried at the fact that it says "Cable transmit video signals up to 1024 x 768 pixel resolution" in the features.

Or should I buy a DP to VGA adapter along with a VGA-VGA cable at Rs 1,299 + 85?

Can I run dual monitors when both are of diff screen sizes/resolutions?

sreedharvenugopal, HDMI to VGA cable price should be not more than 500 bucks. Do one thing, buy a HDMI-HDMI cable and HDMI to VGA connector. Connect the HDMI to your Gfx card's HDMI port and using the HDMI-VGA converter, connect the other side to your Monitor's VGA port.

I couldn't find a HDMI-VGA connector online.

I understand that I look like a complete n00b. But I'm desperate. I've spent money buying the wrong stuff and I really don't want to make a mistake again.
Hence, the seemingly stupid questions and repetitions. I normally don't find anything I want in nearby shops so I usually buy online. So giving me a link to the mentioned item would really help, and I can directly order from there.
