Motherboard Short......Confused..

My Configuration:-

PIII 1GHz,64+256 SDRAM 133Mhz,40GB HDD,SONY CDRW,LG H10N DVDRW
PC - 6yrs OLD, Compaq 5000 series,JBL Speakers
RAM+DVDRW - 4 Months Old

Before 10 days...i ws Movin my PC and ...then wen i restarted..
it wasnt going past BIOS,Tried Everythin RAM cleaning,PROC Cleanin,
Shorting Jumper,Battery Change but no use.
I gave it for repair,the guy kept for 10 days and he said it culdnt be repaird,i gave at another RELIABLE place and he said that During my Previous repair my mobo got short...and so now it cannot be repaird.!! SO AM TOTALLY SCREWED

He askd me if i wuld like another SECOND HAND NO WARRANTY motherboard,for some 1200-1500/- , which he will search for and den check wid my PROC,coz everything other thing is fyne.I hv some time and wil give him my decision by tomo..

So I am confused over what to do...

Should i get this Zillion yr old PC Repaird by NON Warranty mobo by paying 1500 and wid No Graphics Card,No HDD,No USB 2.0 and lots of NO's using same old ..slowww...machine...
OR
Should i get Altogether New PC (Got permission frm HOME)
Am Gaming Freak (tired of using frens PC's) and i use PC too its Optimum level...so ill get a Good one if at al i decide..
OR
Should i go for Laptop (cz i am an hostelite here and i hv only 1 and half yrs of my GRAD left,so i think theres no point in wasting hefty amt for PC wen i wont be using it,coz ill be need LAPTOP after GRAD anyways and even ill be movin so to carry PC is hectic thing)

Ok i knw most of you will say what the heck dude..!! Get what u NEED and nt what u WANT....but am confused over that only.....

So am expecting SUGGESTIONS (any kinda) from you ppl...

First i dunno...if i should hv posted this in Chit-Chat !! I have been answerin so many of these since long time... and now wen its my turn I feeling even worse...

well every thing has its life... u have judge whether ur PC has completed that or not...

many still run on P-III... but more consider right now upgreading would be a good idea...

All will depend on How much u can spend ??

as there is no mean just buying a AMD Sempron Based PC to save money but fullfeeling ur Dream of New Computer... if thats the case i would say repair is the choice for u...

but if u can get a C2D/AM2 or even decent Dual Core processor... then its wise to upgreade...

Yeah my OLd PC ws near dead...i use to format it every 15days..to keep it with my PACE....no SP2,no Antivirus,no firewall ....coz it used to get slow...
so i hd to tweat it in every damn way..!!

Eitherways illb gettin Dual Core..only...if AT ALL i get..!!

But at back of my mind..i have craze for LAPTOP.....coz y spend 45-50K on PC..which i wont be using after 1 and half yrs..!!

What say.....c this makes me more confused..

well Dipen see one thing,

LapTop and desktop no matter what, sooner or later both will again become obsolutae...

both are for different needs bro.. See if u have a 45-50k budget u will get a great C2D system with CRT monitor and decent skp system... while will lappy u will get a PM 720 processor i guess with 512mb ram and 945 gm chipset...

both will be different needs..

see if u travel a lot, ur needs r Working with MS office surfing net and occational Movie, and hardly going to use the system 2 - 3 hours a day then LapTop...

but if u play games, develop multimedia , rip dvds, and want a system for entertainemnt and going to run the system 8 - 10 hours a day to download a lot.. then i guess Desktop is for u...

as mo mean of pluging a lappy to run it 8 hours...

its all up to u... as depends on ur need....

then i evn wnt gud laptop.

so wt wil b a best config 4 50k, m lit out of tch wid hardware prices, i dint expect to get any since 6yrs

havnt purchasd (hvnt needed) graphics card, so wich 1 to try 4?

If i go for Core2Duo.... which series exactly...coz... One Proc is priced at 8K and sm other is priced at 15K..??

and Mobo's....
which are the best mobos...in current situation..!!

well E6300 is lowest with 1.83GHz and 2MB L2

where the 16k processor is E6600 with 2.4 GHz and 4MB L2... as u have a good budget u should eye for E6600...

and about the rest config... ASUS one for E6600 would be 11.5K where as Intel D965WH is 7.5k in Kolkata... both are more or less good... but ASUS board is very very good for overclocking where as u can forget about over-clocking with the Intel Board...

u should eye for 2x1GB 667MHz dual channel RAM

and try to go for a SATA 2 HDD...

TFT/LCDs are good but as u are a hardcore gamer... u should look for CRT as gaming experiance is at its Best with CRTs... how ever TFT/LCDs will save power in compair with a CRT...

Damn Repair chances are gettin low...coz am nt gettin a second hand Mobo..
for PIII 1 Ghz...

Am am loosing over Laptop...coz my use is extensive..!!

So fair chance is ill get New PC..

now the prob is Which proc,Mobo,Graphics Card..!!!
