Disagree with the UI part.
S3 has removable back cover and better camera, camera app. Also it will get a lot of s4 features in the next update (4.2). It also is a bit battery friendly.

NL820, LG O4X has removable back cover & both are available within your budget.

[I sold My S3 Then bought N4. Every buddy here & xda knows this. search for some old threads of me for a new phone.]

N4 has better UI,better screen,Better build,Latest updates,Easily rootable,...
Even though people ought for Samsung :facepalm:
Samsung has shitty plastic !!!
Even a chinese phone looks better than S3....
And s3 is costlier than N4.
N4 rocks!!! :)

When I showed my Nexus 4 to my technologically challenged friends they said "Dai u could have bought S3 na?" . No offense.

If u don't want to get N4 get XZL.

OP has option of Xperia ZR too...4.6" 720p display but rugged (since if his dad won't do lot of customization but need android)..monsoon period..so ZR has advantage over ZL n N4..n dad will be happy with ruggedness ;)..though i would suggest Lumia 920 for seniors..sleek UI..

future proof + customizations => Nexus 4..:)

I am considering xperia ZR, xperia ZL and find 5. Now I'll show them to my dad and ask which one he likes.
