mid level Gaming PC. Fine tuning advise to cheapen it a bit.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: I plan to run GTA4, LA Noire, Fallout 3 and its subsequent DLC, Batman Arkham City etc.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 45 -50 k max. Need a little head room to buy the peripherals as well in that 50k.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Nope, too chicken to try it and my room is already hotter than hell.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?

Ans: windows 7 and if god permits some apple os by way of hackintosh.

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 2 HD drives of 500 gb each to accommodate the dual OS in future.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Yup, wanna buy. 21 inches and 720p and considered standard i think, so that will do.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Everthing will have to buy. My older desktop is 6 years old was was assembled from 18,000 bucks.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?

Ans: A month or so. Delhi is 2 hours from here. So whenever its cloudy or pleasant I'll goto Nehru Place.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

Ans:Never built one. So treating it as an adventure. (potentially a very expensive one i know)

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Live in western UP. Will goto Nehru Place to buy. Will never buy anything online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Need a Intel/Nvidia combo only (coz its friendlier to noobs and hackingtosh possibilities.)

Researched a lot. This was one of my earlier builds. But information overload has resulted in a analysis paralysis. This seems like a good computer. If a little away from my budget. Just need a competent machine to run the high end games mentioned above easily i.e. computer shouldn't heat too much. (My laptop groans pitifully when I run Spore on it and heats up so its to hot to touch. Compaq cq62-228dx.) I m cheap and don't care too much about hi def graphics etc. Just needs games to run at medium graphical setting at cool temperature. Also if could you tell me what things would i need if i just ask somebody to bring the components and build it at home. I mean DVi to PCi connectors etc. (i m a complete noob as you may have gathered.)

So basically need a computer that is just good enough. And Intel/Nvidia combination at around 45 k with a ATX mobo (think will be easier to work with), cabinet will good airflow (my room is very hot and i don't like ACs), and components that are easier to handle for noobs.

Your config needs to be tuned a bit, actually need proper balancing.

The combination of Z68+ Intel K series processor will let you overclock and for Non-K series like i5 2400, H67 chipset is enough.

Here is the config:

Intel Core i5 2400 @ 10.5K
Intel DH67CL Full ATX Board @ 5.6K
Corsair Value Series 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz @ 1.2K
Seagate/WD Caviar Blue 500 GB @ 4.05K
Seasonic SSII 12 520W PSU @ 3.7K
NZXT Source 210 Elite Cabby @ 2.5K
Gigabyte HD 7850 2 GB OC @ 15.2K (far better than GTX 560 Ti and lesser power draw)
BenQ G2220HDL 21.5" 1080P LED @ 7.5K
Logitech MK200 Keyboard & Mouse @ 0.6K
APC 600VA UPS @ 2K

Total ~ 53k.

@Cilus, do you think that a 600 va ups will suffice for that rig. I have nearly the same rig and my 600 va isn't able to provide any backup. So, atleast a 800va would be required by the rig.

600VA UPS is enough to provide 5-10 mins backup. I have a testbed with Phenom II 965 + 4GB XMS3 + GTX 280 + 20" Samsung LCD and APC 600VA provides backup for 10 mins.

Now the suggested config has lot lesser power draw for all the components like CPU and GPU.

NZXT Source 210 Elite Cabby @ 2.5K. Dunno, if its available here. In many threads I have seen that people can't find it in Nehru place. Also I heard good things about Cosair cabinet. My main requirements are good air flow and cable management.

Dunno about the graphics card. I need something from Nvidia. Also a bit cheaper than 560ti. Mybe 560 non ti. Is there a big difference between them ? Looking here can't see too much but what is the real world impact ?

I actually thought I could get away with a cheaper graphics card. I like nvidia heard most games are optimized with their graphics cards. Since I m a complete and utter noob, I thought going with an intel/nvidia combo makes sense.

And configuration you give means i should not worry about running out of slots on my mobo and other newbie problems.
Also once i have all components do i need to buy any extra adapter or wires or any add on card etc ? I'd like to buy everything from NP in one go because in my village it will be a problem.

Cilus

The motherboard is okay enough for normal uses and it offers good number of expansion ports.
You don't need to buy any extra wires. Only HDMI/DVI cables might be required to connect your Monitor with the HDMI/DVI output of the Gfx card. But AFAIK, BenQ G2220HDl ships with a DVI cable, so you won't be needing anything.

If NZXT isn't available then check for Corsair 300R or Cooler master Elite 370 (more cheaper)

So I was thinking Gtx 560 non ti (as i will never overclock).

[ZOTAC GT- 560 TI 1GB DDR 5 is for Rs. 12100 in latest costtocost pricelist so if non ti is available i could cut around 5k for rig to be around even 50k].

Will Gtx 560 non ti be able to run batman arkham city, gta 4 at good resolutions at good fps rate ?

Also since ram is so cheap, will another 4 gb RAM stick result in faster performance in other everyday tasks ?

Also are these components easily available in Nehru place ? Any recommendations as regards to honesty and cheapest prices at shops there ?
SMC International and Computer Empire are the shops most heard about online. Any alternatives to suggest ?

Cilus

laborare est orare
The local price of Zotac GTX 560 Non Ti is around 10.6K and although it can run most of the recent games with good setting @ 1080P resolution, can't guaranty to run the latest demanding games with highest settings. Better stick with HD 7850 which offers performance very close to GTX 570/HD 6970.
Also the 2 GB frame buffer will allow you to use high Anti-Aliasing and Anisotrofic Filering in games.
