Macbook/Pro Updated with Santa Rosa

This just in. Apple store went down some time ago & now it is up. We now have updated Macbooks & Macbook Pro's with faster Santa Rosa platform from Intel & finally DirectX 10 for those using Boot Camp & Vista in the form of Nvidia 8600GT Mobile alongwith LED Backlit display

Prices are as always, high. $500 for exta 40 GB HD Spcae, 128 MB more VRAM & slightly higher CPU. Wow, in PC world this would have acounted for $200 only.

Suddenly it all becomes so clear, Mabook looks so outdated. $1100 for a Macbook which provides only GMA 950, oh comon Apple, HP is providing GeForce 7400 GO in DV6226TX already. Oh yeah, the CPU is better in Apple in this cost, but again Apple is only 13" for $1100 while DV6226TX is 15".

Oh well, Apple is never VFM

Though I was constantly refreshing the apple.com page to see what the new stuff is going to be. Knew it was the new Macbook Pro, but there is always that tension that the new iMacs are going to be out and mine will be outdated. You on the other hand got the bamboo.... Shame on you aayush, roaming around with an outdated MBP.

I wonder whats the point of GeForce 8600GT in Macbook Pro ? I mean, they do not support OpenGL 2.1 & Mac has no support for DirectX 10.

Mac only supports OpenGL 2.0 which is fully supported in GeForce 7 series which also provides good battery life.

The point is that Apple is now taking gaming seriously because they have realised that it is the only area where Mac OS X falls short when compared to Windows. I am now expecting that Apple will announce something huge for gaming on Mac OS X at WWDC.

The MBPs also support up to four gigabytes of memory now.

Apple's huge announcement regarding gaming = Our lifeline Microsoft is releasing DirectX 10 for MacOS X. Thats the only way we can compete with Windows now. By relying on Windows.

You can buy an over priced Macbook Pro, then buy Windows Vista retial for atleast $200 (Home Basic) & then run bootcamp to play games on the Mac.

This is so cheap & value for money compared to buying a Laptop from PC Manufacturers which comes with Vista License integrated.

It turns out, there is more to this upgrade than meets the eye.

Not only the processor and graphics card have been upgraded, the SuperDrive is now capable of 8x write speeds and the standard RAM on any MacBook Pro has been bumped to two gigabytes. The display on the 17-inch notebook now supports a massive resolution of 1920x1200.

Of course, the price remains the same. A very decent upgrade, if I may say so. For the same amount of money (and the same industry leading thinness and weight) you get a better processor, more memory, a faster drive, better display and more battery life.

i agree that macs (no matter which model) are not cheap, but $200 for Vista Home basic*is*also*too*much!!!!

I know its outdated. Even my iMac is. But the first time C2D was introduced, it didn't make much of a difference. It was just a 10% speed bump, otherwise everything else remained the same. This one's got to get you crying....

While PC Laptops are burning DVDs with Lightscribe at 16X from.....2 years. Refer to HP DV6300 or 6200 series plz.

Umm..actually that is the american price. Vista home premium is about 10.5 k here in lucknow, which equals to $200 approx

Apple is all set to come up with Mac Tablet soon with multitouch, a first in industry again. Apple Innovation.
