1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Basic tasks like programming, internet browsing and casual gaming with games like Solitare, Angry Birds etc.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 15K. Expandable till 16-17K at max if direly needed.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Never.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 250-500 GB would suffice.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Yes, any LCD/LED monitor, preferably over 18.5"

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: KB/Mouse, Speakers, UPS and other non-important accessories.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: As soon as possible. Within one week or two.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Yes

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Preferably locally this time. Though some components can be bought online.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: This rig is for my elder sister. So basic rig needed within low budget. Try to get it within 15K. That would be best.

Away from Forums, Again!
Maddy's suggestions are misleading and unbalanced. Refrain from buying any of it. Maddy please read some facts before posting :)

Config give by whitestar is very good. Takes care of all your requirements and includes a 20" LED too.

Yes, can someone try to find online prices of components suggested by whitestar? I'll try to inquire the local prices as well.

Just my few cents....

Amd Athlon II 260 Processor & Biostar A880GZ M/B Combo @ 6600

OR

Amd A6 3500 & Biostar A55ML+ Motherboard Combo @ 7200

Adding all other components the final cost would go to 19k only

Try to get 500gb HDD @4k as there is hardly any difference.

what is this obsession of people here with asus mobos for low price range(below 5000-6000)?in this price range asus is the worst choice for their price.gigabyte board @3100 offers DVI-D port,HDMI port & a better onboard audio compared to asus P8H61 & people still recommend this.(not to mention asus poor after sales support in some regions).

G620 is better than any amd dual core athlon/phenom & A6-3500 though having superior integrated graphics is not really needed as per op's requirements not to mention that it is not upgradeable as FM1 socket will be replaced by FM2.

Can you please provide me the link for 600/- cabinet you stated here? I cannot find any cabinet lower than 1000/- with SMPS included.

get a rs.500-600 cabinet without smps & a generic 500-600W psu.among different models simply hold psu in hand & buy the one which feels heaviest even if it is 400w.

Ask for the cabinet locally.
Is it wise to compromise with the psu quality and put everything else at risk?
If budget is more important, do as whitestar suggests.
I didnt know about the weight test for psu's ? :p

^^for a G620/similar system with no graphics card a generic psu will be fine(speaking from own experience).as for weight test it is quite handy in selecting most decent one among many generic psu's.try comparing a seasonic/corsair with a Rs.500 generic psu & you will immediately feel the difference.not so much among generic psu's but still useful.

Nice tip whitestar. Though I've inquired locally and SMPS alone costs like 400-500Rs., if bought alone. If you buy a cabinet with SMPS it costs like 900-1000Rs. for simple, no-frills cabby. So I think cabinet purchase will shoot the budget to 17K with your config. Anyway, thank you very much, I'll try to find the best possible combinations in least prices :p
