I've my friend saying that they set the pc to download some file/s for the night and leave it when they get up the file has been downloaded. He stays in a hostel sutdying for B.Tech. But doesn't the pc goes into standby mode after specific time and also the HDD. My question is that how can I leave my pc unattended for long hours while it's downloading? Is there some setting changes to be made? And if the pc goes into standby doesn't the download stops? Can I switch off monitor for longer duration download? Please answer my question, I am a DATAONE user and want to use the free hours, so that I could set the pc for download and go to sleep and when I wake up the file/s would have been downloaded. This seem a stupid question but plz help. I use win98se.

The pc won't go to standby mode until it is told in the power schemes.....

IF the system goes to standby mode and if you have a usb modem then the modem may go stand by and you may be disconnected......

It is better you switch off your monitor and go to sleep.......

Regards :p :p

I found only the turn off monitor option. No other option can be found. I use WIN98SE.

The power schemes available are:
1) home/ office desk
2) potable/ laptop
3) always on
